Kāraṇodakaśāyī Viṣṇu (Maha-Visnu) is the first of the Purusha controllers known as Visnu/Narayana expansions of Kṛṣṇa who manage the unlimited Brahmanda's in the material world.
There are three main Visnu expansions in the material creation.
1 - Kāraṇodakaśāyī Viṣṇu (Maha-Visnu)
2 - Garbhodakashayi Visnu (Hiraņyagarbha)
3 - Kshirodakashayi Visnu (Paramatma/Supersoul)
Maha-Visnu (Kāraṇodakaśāyī Viṣṇu) creates innumerable universes known as the individual Brahmanda material universes that each originate from the pores of Maha-Visnu's skin and breathing as He sleeps and dreams the material worlds.
Maha-Visnu lies down in the Causal Ocean on the bed of Ananta Sesha (a snake expansion of Lord Balarama) and initiates the creation by glancing at His personified material energy, Maya.
From Maha-Visnu (Kāraṇodakaśāyī Viṣṇu) comes the other two Visnus:
1/ Garbhodakashayi Visnu creates the secondary material universe found deep inside the massive outer Brahmanda material universe.
2/ Kshirodakashayi Visnu known also as Paramatma or Supersoul, accompanies the individual jiva-souls who enter the temporary material world.
Maha-Visnu creates the innumerable Brahmanda material universes of various sizes, our Brahmanda material universe is small compared to others, and is said to be 44 quadrillion 444 trillion 444 billion miles in diameter, or double that size if measured from the outer edge of the inner secondary material universe inside it.
Garbhodakashayi Visnu, and expansion of Maha-Visnu, enters into each "secondary material universe" that exists deep inside each Brahmanda universe.
From Garbhodakashayi Visnu's naval a lotus stem grows where a lotus flower appears at its top, this is where Lord Brahma resides.
Our Lord Brahma has 4 heads indicating our inner secondary material universe is very small, being only 4 billion miles in diameter according to the 5th Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam.
Unlimited other Lord Brahmas, each within their own secondary material universe within their own massive Brahmanda universe, have 1000, 10,000, 500,000, 1000,000, 10,000,000 or more heads! Inconceivable to the mundane brain.
As said above, this means the Brahmanda material universe encasing our inner secondary material universe is very small compared to other Brahmanda universes.
Ksirodakashayi Visnu (Paramatma or Supersoul) enters each atom in every material universe and also sits within the heart of each material bodily vessel the individual jiva-souls possess.
Wherever their is Ksirodakashayi Visnu, also known as Paramatma or Supersoul, there is the individual jiva-soul everywhere in the temporary material world.
Thw word "Sarva-gatah" means life (individual unites of anti-matter known as the jiva-souls who emanate from Krsna the Supreme Personality of Godhead) are everywhere, some active in the material world, and some inactive (dormant) in the impersonal brahmajyoti and the material atom.
This means even within dead matter exists Visnu and the dormant individual jiva-soul within every material atom. However, in that conditioned state outside the active spiritual world where the fallen individual jiva-souls are not active in the temporary material world, the individual jiva-souls remain dormant (inactive) in the atom or the impersonal brahmajyoti for a long, long time but such a conditioned state in the impersonal brahmajyoti or the atom is not eternal.
Within dead matter like an atom in a stone in the material world, the dormant individual jiva-soul also exist but are totally inactive which is another expression of impersonalism.
The difference between dead matter in the temporary material world, and anti-matter, is Krsna, His paraphernalia and expansions that include the active individual jiva-souls.
As explained above, anti-matter is made up by a collection of individual living units known as the individual jiva-souls, with Krsna and His direct Visnu-tattva expansions.
Anti-matter is individual spiritual life in the spiritual world, is expressed as unique distinctive spiritual form, personality and character. Everything in the spiritual world (the Vaikuntha planets and Goloka-Vrindavana) is based on the individual life in a two-sided co-operative mood as shown to us by Kṛṣṇa the Supreme Personality of Godhead and cause of all causes, which is the meaning of both personalism and love, that can only exists when there are two expressing loving exchanges.
Srila Prabhupada - "The impersonalist philosophy is oneness, so how there be love with just one? Is it possible? Have you got any such experience that love means one? No, love means two, there must be two, the lover and the beloved. Kṛṣṇa is already lover, He loves you so much that He is always trying to get you back, that is Kṛṣṇa's goal, "Please, My dear boy/girl, or My dear friend, My dear servant." (SB, Canto 2 Ch 1 text 3, Paris, June 12, 1974)
Srila Prabhupāda – "Love means a relationship between "two persons", then there is exchange, then there is love. I must deal with you open-hearted, you must deal with me open-hearted, then there is love. So if you want to love Kṛṣṇa, God, then these things must be there." (Aug 9, 1976, Tehran)
Srila Prabhupada - "We have got the propensity to love. Love means somebody else. Love cannot be one or love cannot be executed by only one, there must be two. I love somebody; somebody loves me, there must be lover, there must be the beloved, and the reciprocation between both, then their is love." (SB, Canto 1 Ch 2 text 6, Delhi, Nov 12, 1973)
Srila Prabhupada - "Free will means that you can act wrongly, that is free will. Unless there is chance of doing wrong or right, there is no question of free will. Where is free will then? If I act only one sided, that means I have no free will. Because we act sometimes wrongly, that means we have free will." (Discussions on Rene Descartes philosophy)
Srila Prabhupada – "So everyone can know that independence means one can use it properly, one can misuse it. That is independence. If you make it one way only, that you cannot become fall down, that is not independence the expression of free will), that is force!" (Mayapur, June 20, 1973)
Krsna personally allows the individual jiva-souls to have free will so diversity expressed in a voluntary "two-way" cooperative spirit, eternally exists.
Therefore, even though Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and cause of all causes, and all living entities are fully dependent on Krsna, the paradox here is the individual jiva-souls have their own unique distinctive freedom too eternally.
As said above, free will only has meaning when the individual jiva-souls can express themselves not under the control of another in an co-operative "two-sided" voluntary affair of loving exchanges and reciprocation with Krsna.
In other words, loving reciprocation is only possible in a "two-way" exchange with both the individual jiva-souls and Kṛṣṇa contributing to the relationship's expansion of nectarine mellows of devotional service.
In this way, loving exchanges are only eternally possible on a "two-way street" meaning there is always a cooperative spirit between Kṛṣṇa and His devotees that expands their loving service to each other.
The word "reciprocation" only has meaning and expressed as loving exchanges when there are two involved, not one!
Furthermore, free will means the individual jiva-souls can always express themselves in an open "two-sided" loving affair without being manipulated, used, bullied or controlled in anyway.
Spiritual energy is an collective of unlimited units of anti-matter (life) known as the individual active jiva-souls perpetually as a spiritual bodily form who are the eternal effulgence of Radha and Krsna' Bodily Form who are the Supreme Personalities of Godhead and cause of all causes.
However, the temporary material world is where the individual jiva-souls (individual units of imperishable anti-matter) can become dormant (inactive) and further fall down and enter the impersonal brahmajyoti.
1/4 of the Spiritual Sky is made up with matter (lifeless material energy) that surrounds those fallen individual jiva-souls who have chosen to enter the temporary material world.
The material bodily vessel the individual jiva-souls are in, is alive due to the presents of the dominant individual jiva-soul (you), and the billions of other individual jiva-souls within billions of cells that make up each of the organs within the material bodily vessel.
The material body is referred to as matter even though within each cell of the material body it is possessed by life (individual units of anti-matter)
Eventually when that presence of life in the material body is forced to vacate, it is due to the body becoming unfit to maintain and support life, what is left behind is dead matter that eventually merges back into the material energy.
When the material bodily vessel becomes unfit and unsuitable to maintain all life in that body, all the individual jiva-souls (anti-matter) that once maintained it, leave and the bodily vessel life once maintained, becomes dead matter that decays and merges back into the material energy. All individual jīva-souls (anti-matter) have originally fallen to the material world from the spiritual world.
However, even falling down to the lifeless material energy the individual jiva-souls fall too, they can still fall further and become dormant in the impersonal brahmajyoti, and within the material atom, which non-active state also part of the impersonal brahmajyoti.
3/4 of the Spiritual Sky is is known as anti-matter which are the eternal individual active units of life known as the individual jiva-souls, headed by Krsna the Supreme Personality of Godhead and cause of all causes, who similtaneously exits everwhere (being all-pervasive).
All dead matter or material energy originates from spiritual energy, even each atom in the material world has the presents of both the individual jiva-soul in an "inactive or dormant state or condition" and Lord Visnu as Paramatma.
Material energy (seemly dead matter) is seperated inactive dormant spiritual energy (living active individual units of anti-matter know as the individual jiva-souls headed by Krsna).
The dormant individual jiva-souls in the material atom in the material world are always accompanied by Visnu known as Paramatma or Supersoul. The individual jiva-souls in the material atom and the impersonal brahmajyoti are inactive and almost dead Prabhupada explains.
Srila Prabhupada - "The natural full potential of the marginal living entities (individual jiva-souls) is to be fully active in the service of Krsna, such an eternal place known as the spiritual world, is living individual anti-matter (75% of the Spiritual Sky), where each individual living entity is serving the Lord in unlimited ways, and where mundane dead matter (25% of the Spiritual Sky) does not exist." (From Prabhupada's Book "Easy Journey to Other Planets")
Revatīnandana - "Srila Prabhupāda you very clearly explained to me once in a letter that if the individual jiva-soul goes into the impersonal brahmajyoti and becomea inactive (dormant), he is considered fallen, does that means the whole impersonal brahmajyoti is composed of fallen individual jiva-souls? You see my question? If I go there, I'm an individual jīva-soul in the impersonal brahmajyoti and still fallen?"
Srila Prabhupāda - "Yes."
Revatīnandana - "That means all individual jīva-souls there are also fallen?"
Srila Prabhupāda - "Yes, existence in the impersonal brahman is also within the category of non-Krsna consciousness. Those who are in the brahman effulgence are also in the fallen condition, so there is no question of falling down from a fallen condition. When fall takes place, it means falling down from the non-fallen condition (Goloka-Vrindavana and Vaikuntha). The non-fallen condition is Krsna consciousness." (Letter to Revatinandana, LA 13 June, 1970 and 1971 London)
The individual jiva-soul's original position in Goloka-Vrindavana from where they originated from, originally have the same bodily features as Krsna-
sat,
cit,
ananda,
vigraha.
Which means-
Eternity,
Knowledge,
Bliss,
Form.
They all come together as a perpetual bodily individual form like Krsna's body.
The full potential and original feature of all marginal living entities (individual jiva-souls), is a two-arm form like Krsna's Body.
Devotee – "Is the original body of the spirit soul a human form?"
Srila Prabhupada – "Yes, human form, God is also human form. "Man is made after the shape of God." I think there is in the Bible. Is it not? So God is also like human form. Here you see Krsna, two hands, two legs."
Hari-sauri – "How do we understand, then, that there are peacocks and flowers and trees in the spiritual world? Are these not eternal forms?"
Srila Prabhupada – [describing material form first]: "Yes, they are more covered, just like if you cover your body with blanket, the hands and legs are invisible. But you are not the blanket. So the trees and plants, they are more covered, they are not in full manifestation. The human form is the full manifestation of the individual jiva-soul."
Hari-sauri - "Are they covered in the spiritual world?"
Srila Prabhupada - "Not in the spiritual world, there service and spiritual appearance is voluntary, some devotee wants to serve Krsna as flower; they become flower there. If I want to be a flower I shall lie down at the lotus feet of Krsna and become flower, voluntarily, and can change from flower to human bodily form if I choose, that is spiritual life, there is no restriction. If some devotee wants to serve Krsna as cow, he serves Krsna as cow, as calf, as flower, as plant, as water, as ground, field, as chair, as chariot, as flagpole or as father, as mother, as friend, as beloved, anything. It is inconceivable, yet a fact." (SB, Canto 6 Ch 1 Text 1-4, Melb, Australia May 20, 1975)
Srila Prabhupada - "The human bodily form is the full spiritual manifestation of the individual jiva-soul." (Melb, Australia May 20, 1975)
Srila Prabhupada - "The spirit soul is not formless; it has got spiritual bodily form, the spirit soul always has form and is expressed as hands, legs, heads, everything. But with our material eyes at the present, our gross eyes, we cannot see these facts; therefore we foolishly believe the jiva-souls have no form." (Lecture BG, Ch 2 Text 14, Mexico, Feb 14, 1975)
The individual jiva-souls (marginal living entities) are eternal PERSONS, as a spiritual bodily form like Krsna's Body, whose perpetual permanent natural home is the spiritual world.
God (Krsna) is not only an all-pervading consciousness who is even in the atom, no, Krsna the Supreme Personality of Godhead and cause of all causes, is also simultaneously an individual "PERSON" as an eternal spiritual bodily Form, who's Bodily rays are the Brahmajyoti.
Srila Prabhupada - "Each "person" (individual jiva-soul) is eternal. Lord Krsna says that He existed as a person before the creation (agre) and will also exist after the annihilation, the Lord is a "person" eternally." (SB, Canto 6 Ch 4 text 47, Purport)
Devotee - "If the spirit soul (individual jiva-soul) is non-material and has form, what is that form?"
Srila Prabhupāda - "There is form, just like this body is compared with the dress. Now, just like in your present material form you have got hand; therefore your coat has got hand, you have got leg; therefore your pant has got leg. Therefore, it is to be assumed that the spirit soul has got form, and it has developed into hands, legs, heads, everything. It is not formless; it has got form. But with our material eyes at the present, gross eyes, we cannot find it; therefore we say it has no form." (Lecture BG, Ch 2 text 14 Mexico, Feb 14, 1975)
Devotee - "Śrīla Prabhupāda, you state that the individual jiva-soul has form."
Srila Prabhupāda - "Yes."
Devotee - "Otherwise, how is the material body grown to accommodate the individual jiva-soul? Just like a shirt has no form, but when it's put on the body, it takes the shapes of the body. Does that mean that the individual jiva-soul has the shape of the body that is accommodating it?"
Srila Prabhupāda - "Yes, you have got body, shape, very minute shape, that we cannot see, we cannot measure (when outside their original home and position in the spiritual world and instead in the temporary material world).
Therefore in the Bhagavad-gītā it is said, anumeyam. You cannot measure. What is that word used? Aprameyam. Aprameyam, you cannot measure but it has a form. What is the length and breadth of that form, that is not in your power to understand, not materially.
If you have got spiritual power then you can measure it. And that measurement is also given in the śāstra. What is that? One ten-thousandth part of the tip of the hair. Hair is a very small point. And divide it into ten thousand parts. That one part is the measure, magnitude of the soul." (Lecture SB, Canto 1 Ch 16 text 24 Hawaii, Jan 20, 1974)
Hayagrīva dasa - "There is no difference between God's form and His spiritual self?"
Srila Prabhupāda - "Yes, as in the material world any form-man or beast or anyone—in the outward, external covering is matter, but within the matter there is the soul. The soul has form and God has form. That is real form. And the material form is simply shirting and coating over the spiritual body."
Hayagrīva dasa - "Thomas Aquinas considered that matter was necessary to give the individual jiva-soul form?"
Srila Prabhupāda - "No, no, he has got his original spiritual form."
Hayagrīva dasa - "Original form?"
Srila Prabhupāda - "Yes."
Hayagrīva dasa - "Which is the form of the spiritual body."
Srila Prabhupāda - "Original form, that is the form of the spirit (individual jiva-soul)."
Hayagrīva dasa - "Of the spirit."
Srila Prabhupāda - "Yes, and the form of the body takes place on account of the form of the spirit (individual jiva-soul). This is very nice example. The cloth has no form, but when it is cut according to the form of the gentleman, it takes a form. Similarly, matter has no form. When it is coated on the spiritual form of the soul, it takes the form. This is very easy to understand." (Discussion with on Thomas Aquinas philosophy)
It is inconceivable, yet a fact." (SB, Canto 6 Ch 1 Text 1-4, Melb, Australia May 20, 1975)
The word "Vaikuntha" means "without anxiety" therefore how could there be demons on the Vaikuntha planets or in Goloka-Vrindavana?
Furthermore, how could the gopis ever feel separation from Kṛṣṇa there? After all Krsna never leaves the original Goloka Vrindavana in the spiritual world.
Jayatīrtha dasa - "If the original Kṛṣṇa is always in Vṛndāvana, then why do the gopīs and Rādhārāṇī feel separation from Him?"
Srila Prabhupada - "That is here, in this material world. In the spiritual world Kṛṣṇa does not leave."
Jayatīrtha dasa - "Oh."
Srila Prabhupāda - "And even in the material world, Kṛṣṇa superficially has gone to Mathurā, but He has captured the heart of the gopīs. So He is not leaving. Gopīs are enjoying Kṛṣṇa by separation. That is Caitanya Mahāprabhu's feeling, how He is appreciating Kṛṣṇa by separation." (Morning Walk, July 17, 1975, San Francisco
Once while Krsna was ruling Dvaraka, Lord Brahma from our material universe came to see Him.
Our small "secondary material universe," created by Garbhodakashayi Visnu, is maintained by our Brahma who builds the 14 planetary systems inside it.
Furthermore, our material universe is deep inside a larger surrounding universe called a Brahmanda that comes from the Body of Maha-Visnu and his breathing. There are billions of these massive Brahmanda universes each with a secondary smaller material universe inside of them.
The doorman of Dvaraka immediately informed Krsna of Brahma’s arrival. When Krsna was informed, He immediately asked the doorman-
Krsna - "Which Brahma is it? What is his name, what universe is he from?"
The doorman returned and questioned Lord Brahma of which Brahma he was.
The doorman asked - "Which Brahma are you, which universe are you from?'
Lord Brahma was very surprised as he believed he was the only Brahma that existed.
Lord Brahma replied - "Please inform Krsna that I am the four-headed Brahma who is the father of the four Kumaras.'
The doorman then went and told Krsna what Brahma had said and Krsna then gave Brahma permission to enter. The doorman escorted Lord Brahma in, and as soon as Brahma saw Krsna he offered obeisances at the Supreme Lord's Lotus feet. After being worshiped by Brahma, Krsna also honored Lord Brahma with suitable words.
Krsna asked - "Why have you come to visit me?"
Brahma replied - "I will later tell You why I have come but first I have some doubts in my mind which I wish You too kindly answer why did you inquire which Brahma had come to see You? What is the purpose of such an inquiry? Is there any other Brahma besides me within the universe?"
Upon hearing this, Krsna smiled and closed His eyes in meditation. Then immediately an unlimited number of Brahmas appeared instantly to the great suprise of our Brahma Furthermore, all these Brahmas had a different numbers of heads than our Brahma's four heads.
Some had ten heads, some twenty, some a hundred, some a thousand, some had ten thousand, some had a hundred thousand, some had ten million and some had hundreds of millions.
No one can count the number of faces they had and Lord Brahma was totally amazed at what he was seeing. To Brahma's surprise, there also arrived many Lord Sivas with various heads numbering one hundred thousand and also some with ten million! Many Indras also arrived, and they had hundreds of thousands of eyes all over their bodies.
When our four-headed Brahma from our single material universe situated deep inside our surrounding Brahmanda, saw all these opulences of Krsna, he became very bewildered and considered himself to be very small and insignificant in a great material universal creation that was much bigger than he could ever imagined existed!
As these Brahmas that arrived to see Krsna, offered their respects at Krsna’s lotus feet, and when they did this, their helmets touched His lotus feet. No one can estimate the inconceivable potency of Krsna the Supreme Personality of Godhead and cause of all causes.
All the Brahmas who were there, were resting in the one body of Krsna. When all their helmets struck together at Krsna’s ’s lotus feet, there was a tumultuous sound. It appeared that the helmets themselves were offering prayers unto Krsna’s lotus feet.
With folded hands, all the Brahmas and Sivas began to offer prayers unto Krsna, saying, "O Lord, You have shown me a great favour. I have been able to see Your lotus feet."
All the Brahmas then said - "It is my great fortune, Lord Krsna, that You have called me, thinking of me as Your servant. Now let me know what Your order is so that I may carry it on all my heads."
Krsna replied - "Since I wanted to see all of you together, I have called all of you here, all of you should be happy. Is there any fear from the demons?"
The Brahms replied - "By Your mercy, we are victorious everywhere, whatever burden was upon us You have taken away by descending on my planet in my universe.'
All the Brahmas believed that Krsna was always staying in their jurisdiction. None of the Brahmas could see the other Brahmas except for our Brahma who Krsna allowed to be seen so he could understand he is not the only Lord Brahma. Thus the opulence of Krsna's abode Dvaraka was perceived by each and every one of the Lord Brahmas.
As already explained, although they were all assembled together, none of the Lord Brahma could see any other Brahma. Krsna then bade farewell to all the Brahmas, and after offering their obeisances, they all returned to their respective material universes that exists deep inside their respected larger Brahmanda universes.
As said above, after observing all these opulences, our four-headed Brahma from our universe was astonished. He again came before the lotus feet of Krsna and offered Him obeisances.
Brahma said - "Whatever I formerly decided about my knowledge, I have just now had personally verified -
jananta eva janantu
kim bahuktya na me prabho
manaso vapuso vaco
vaibhavam tava gocarah
There are people who say, I know everything about Krsna. Let them think in that way. As far as I am concerned, I do not wish to speak very much about this matter. O my Lord, let me say this much. As far as your opulence’s are concerned, they are all beyond the reach of my mind, body and words." (SB Canto 10 Ch 14 text 38)
Krsna says - "Your particular universe extends four billion miles in diameter; therefore it is the smallest of all the material universes. Consequently, Lord Brahma in this material universe has only four heads." (SB, Canto 10 Ch 14 text 38)
The "secondary material universes" that is deep inside our Brahmanda universe, is 4 billion miles in diameter. Some secondary material universe are 8 billion, 30 billion, 50 billion, 80 billion miles in diameter or more. The amount is almost unlimited.
This obviously means the outer Brahmanda universes are different sizes too, some are billion of times bigger than our Brahmanda material universe that our our small secondary material universe is in.
As already explained, the size of each secondary material universe that is inside their larger Brahmanda, is determined by the number of heads each Brahma has. Maha-Visnu maintains innumerable material universes (Brahmandas) originating from His bodily pores and breathing.
Krsna explains - "No one can measure the length and breadth of one fourth of My energy (the material world). And who can measure the three fourths (the Vaikuntha planets and Goloka-Vrindavana or spiritual world) that is eternally manifest in the spiritual Sky? Beyond the River Viraja is a spiritual nature, which is indestructible, eternal, inexhaustible and unlimited. The Supreme Abode consists of three fourths of the Lord’s opulences and is known as paravyoma, the Spiritual Sky." (Adapted from Sri Caitanya Caritamrta Madhya-lila Ch 21)*^.^*
