There are three divisions among Krishna’s friends and where they have come from.

There are three divisions among Krishna’s friends and Krsna and the Cowherd Boys Praise Balarama.

Among the groups of different friends of Krsna, some are well known from various scriptures, and some are well known by popular tradition.

There are three divisions among Krishna’s friends.

1 - Some are eternally in friendship with Krishna,

2 - Some are elevated demigods and yogis who have absorbed themselves in thoughts of Krishna,

3 - Some are perfected devotees.

In all of these groups there are some who by nature are fixed in Krishna‘s service and are always engaged in giving counsel.

Some of them are very fond of joking and naturally cause Krsna to smile by their words.

Some of them are by nature very simple, and by their simplicity they please Lord Krishna.

Some of them create wonderful situations by their activities, apparently against Krishna.

Some of them are very talkative, always arguing with Krishna and creating a debating atmosphere.

Some of them are very gentle and give pleasure to Krishna by their sweet words.

All of these friends are very intimate with Krishna, and they show expertise in their different activities, their aim always being to please Krishna.

Krishna played with His intimate friends sometimes by fighting or wrestling with their arms, sometimes by playing ball and sometimes by playing chess.

Sometimes they carried one another on their shoulders, and sometimes they exhibited their expertness at whirling logs.

And the cowherd friends used to please Krishna by sitting together with Him on couches or on swings, by lying together on their beds, by joking together and by swimming in the pool.

All these activities are called anubhava.

Whenever all the friends would assemble in the company of Krishna, they would immediately engage in all these functions, especially in dancing together.

Regarding their wrestling, one friend once asked Krishna,

“My dear friend, O killer of the Agha demon, You are very proudly wandering among Your friends trying to exhibit Your arms as very strong. Is it that You are envious of me?

I know that You cannot defeat me in wrestling, and I also know that You were sitting idly for a long time because You were hopeless of defeating me.”

All the friends were very daring and would risk any difficulty, because they were confident that Krsna would help them to be victorious in all adventures.

They used to sit together and advise one another what to do, sometimes inducing one another to be engaged in welfare work.

Sometimes they would offer betel nuts to one another, decorate one another’s faces with tilaka or smear pulp of candana on one another’s bodies.

Sometimes, for the sake of amusement, they used to decorate their faces in strange ways.

Another business of the friends was that each of them wanted to defeat Krsna.

Sometimes they used to snatch His clothing or snatch away the flowers from His hands.

Sometimes one would try to induce another to decorate his body for him, and failing this, they were always ready to fight, challenging one another to combat in wrestling.

These were some of the general activities of Krishna and His friends.”

 Confidential Friends

“The more confidential friends are called priya-sakhas and are almost Krishna’s age.

Because of their very confidential friendship, their behaviour is only on the basis of pure friendship.

The behaviour of other friends is on the ground of paternal love or servitude, but the basic principle of the confidential friends is simply friendship on an equal level.

Some confidential friends are as follows:

Sridama,
Sudama,
Dama,
Vasudama,
Kinkini,
Stoka-krsna,
Amsu,
Bhadrasena,
Vilasi,
Pundarika,
Vitanka,
Kalavinka.

By their various activities in different pastimes, all of these friends used to give transcendental pleasure to Krsna.

The behavior of these confidential friends is described by a friend of Radharani who told Radharani,

“My dear graceful Radharani, Your intimate friend Krishna is also served by His intimate boyfriends.

Some of them cut jokes with Him in mild voices and please Him very much by this.

For example, Krishna had one brahmana friend whose name was Madhumangala.

This boy would joke by playing the part of a greedy brahmana.

Whenever the friends ate, he would eat more than all others, especially laddus, of which he was very fond.

Then after eating more laddus than anyone else, Madhumangala would still not be satisfied, and he would say to Krishna.

“If You give me one more laddu, then I shall be pleased to give You my blessings so that Your friend Radharani will be very much pleased with You.”

The brahmanas are supposed to give blessings to the vaisyas (farming and merchant caste), and Krishna presented Himself as the son of Maharaja Nanda, a vaisya; so the brahmana boy was right in giving blessings to Krishna.

Thus Krishna was very pleased by His friend’s blessings, and He would supply him with more and more laddus.

Sometimes a confidential friend would come before Krsna and embrace Him with great affection and love.

Another friend would then come up from the rear and cover Krishna’s eyes with his hands.

Krishna would always feel very happy by such dealings with His confidential friends.”

The leader of these confidential friends is Sridama, who is also known as Pithamardaka. Sridama has a handsome dark complexion.

He wears yellow garments and a necklace of jewels. He is a splendid youth sixteen years old.

He is a great reservoir of the nectar of innumerable transcendental pastimes, and He is Lord Krsna’s dearest friend.

His father is Maharaj Vrsabhanu and His mother is the chaste Kirtida-devi. Srimati Radharani and Ananga-manjari are his two younger sisters.

Sudama’s handsome complexion is somewhat fair. He is decorated with jewelled ornaments and wears blue garments.

His father’s name is Matuka and His mother is Rocana-devi. He is very young and fond of playing many kinds of games.

Madhumangala has a slightly dark complexion. He wears yellow garments and a garlands of forest flowers.

His father is the saintly Sandipani Muni, his mother the chaste Sumukhi devi, his sister is Nandimukhi-devi and his parental grandmother is Paurnamasi-devi.

An expert comedian who always plays the buffoon, Sri Madhumangala is the constant companion of Lord Krishna.

Bhadrasena is the general who leads Krishna’s childhood friends in military pastimes.

Stokakrsna is very appropriately named, for he is just like a small (stoka) Krishna. Another of Krsna’s confidential friends are Priyaskara.

These confidential friends (priya-sakha) delights Lord Krishna with their enthusiastic and jubilant wrestling, stick-fighting and other sports.

Intimate Friends

“There are other friends who are still more confidential. They are called priya-narma, or intimate friends.

Counted among the priya-narma friends are Subala, Arjuna, Gandharva, Vasanta and Ujjvala.

There was talk among the friends of Radharani, the gopis, about these most intimate friends.

One gopi addressed Radharani thus:

“My dear Krishangi [delicate one], just see how Subala is whispering Your message into Krsna’s ear, how he is delivering the confidential letter of Syama-dasi silently into Krsna’s hand, how he is delivering the betel nuts prepared by Palika into Krsna’s mouth, and how he is decorating Krsna with the garland prepared by Taraka.

Did you know, my dear friend, that all these most intimate friends of Krsna are always engaged in His service in this way?”

Out of the many intimate priya-narmas, Subala and Ujjvala are considered to be the most prominent.

The description of Ujjvala, another intimate friend, is given as follows.

Ujjvala always wears some garment of orange color, and the movements of his eyes are always very restless.

He likes to decorate himself with all kinds of flowers, his bodily hue is almost like Krishna‘s, and on his neck there is always a necklace of pearls.

He is always very dear to Krishna. Let us all worship Ujjvala, the most intimate friend of Krishna!

About the confidential service of Ujjvala, this statement is to be found, addressed by Radharani to one of Her friends:

“My dear friend, it is impossible for Me to keep My prestige! I wanted to avoid talking to Krishna anymore–but just see!

There again is His friend Ujjvala, coming to Me with his canvassing work.

His entreaties are so powerful that it is very difficult for a gopi to resist her love for Krishna, even though she may be very bashful, devoted to her family duties and most faithful to her husband.”

The following is a statement by Ujjvala, showing his jubilant nature:

“My dear Krsna, O killer of Aghasura, You have extended Your loving affairs so much that You can be compared to the great ocean, which is without limitations.

At the same time, the young girls of the world, who are all searching after the perfect lover, have become just like rivers running into this ocean.

Under the circumstances, all these rivers of young girls may try to divert their courses to some other place, but at the end they must come unto You.”

Subala has a fair complexion. He wears handsome blue garments and he is decorated wtih many kinds of jewels and flowers He is twelve-and-a-half years old and He glows with youthful luster.

He is charming and full of transcendental love for Them. He is cheerful and full of good qualities. He is very dear to Krishna.

Ujjvala has a splendid reddish complexion. His garments are decorated with star patterns and he is decorated with pearls and flowers.

His father is named Sagara and his mother is the chaste Veni-devi.

He is thirteen years old and full of youthful luster. Splendid Ujjvala appears like the personified ruler of all transcendental mellows, and Lord Krishna, the crest jewel of playful boys, is submissive to this dear friend.

Arjuna’s glistening complexion is the colour of a red lotus flower.

His garments are the colour of moonlight and He is decorated with many kinds of jewels.

His father is Sudaksina, his mother Bhadra-devi, and his elder brother Vasudama.

He is always plunged in transcendental love for the divine couple. He is fourteen-and-a half and full of the lustre of youth.

He wears a garland of forest flowers and many other kinds of flower-ornaments. (This Arjuna is not Pandava Arjuna)

Handsome Gandharva has a complexion the colour of moonlight. He wears red garments and many different ornaments.

He is twelve years old and full of youthful lustre. He is decorated with many kinds of flowers.

His mother is the saintly Mitra-devi and his father the great soul Vinoka. He is very playful and very dear to Sri Krishna.

Vasanta has a splendid fair complexion. His garments glitter like the moon and he is decorated with various jewels.

He is eleven years old. He is decorated with many different flower garlands.

His mother is the saintly Saradi-devi and his father is the great soul Pingala.

Puspanka, Hasanka, Kokila, Sanandana and Vidagdha are also among the most important of Krsna’s intimate friends. Krsna keeps no secrets from these intimate friends.

Among them, Puspanka and Hasanka are the leaders of those fond of joking.

Krsna’s parents love their son very dearly. They consider Him many millions of times more important than their own life’s breath.

Very frightened that the demon Kamsa would harm their son, they engaged these well-wishing friends (suhrt) to protect Him.

The leader of these well-wishing friends is a boy named Vijayaksa, whose mother, Ambika-devi, was Krishna’s nurse.

Artificial Intelligence - another dangerous feature of impersonalism in this material World. Impersonalism has many features we have not yet fully understood in our generation of 2020.

Artificial Intelligence - another dangerous feature of impersonalism in this material World.

Never underestimate the many branches of "Impersonalism" a greatly underestimated reality in the material creation.

Impersonalism has many features we have not yet fully understood in our generation of 2020.

In the future, because of advanced technology and Artificial Intelligence, future generations will see entire cities exist with "material bodies" but none of those "vessels" will have a jiva soul in them! They are simply machines.

Such a reality of materialism (Androids) devoid of the soul is laughed at by the less intelligent, such fools also said heart transplants are not possible.

Yes, even the biological material vessel can be grown (not created as that is not possible) in a laboratory and have no "dominant" jiva soul.

How is this possible?

Simple with the right technology, a machine is built that reacts to the actions of others, needing no person (soul) controlling them.

Such programs already exist on car assembly lines and security in many buildings and spell check devices.

This is not always a bad thing, I talk to my computer every day called "Google Hub"

She controls everything in my house from lights, air conditioning, TV, Blue ray recorder and mobile phone

And she knows everything too even all of Prabhupada's Books word for word.

The sleeping Maha Vishnu (Karanadakashayi Vishnu) expands Himself into each "secondary inner material universe" that is deep inside each Brahmanda universe that originates from the breathing and pores of Maha Vishnu.

The sleeping Maha Vishnu (Karanadakashayi Vishnu) expands Himself into each "secondary inner material universe" that is deep inside each Brahmanda universe that originates from the breathing and pores of Maha Vishnu.

Within each secondary material universe deep inside their Brahmanda, Maha Vishnu expands as Garbhodakashayi Vishnu who is at the centre of each massive Brahmanda universe inside His own universe.

The jiva soul can stay for an almost eternity in the temporary decaying material universes cycles of annihilation and birth and death if they choose.

When Lord Brahma dies after 100 of his years (311 trillion and 40 billion human years), there is an equal period of his life span of 311 trillion, 40 billion human years where nothing living exists, everything in the material universe remains dormant for that enormous amount of time.

Then the next material creation of Brahmanda's manifest from Maha Vishnu (Karanadakashayi Vishnu)

All "jiva souls" (known as the jiva-tattva), from the material universes within each Brahmanda, have merged as "individual spiritual units" into the Body of Karanadakashayi Vishnu (Maha Vishnu) and remain that way until the next creation of Brahmandas when they again manifest from Maha Vishnu's Spiritual Body as seen in painting below.

In other words, in the next new creation of Brahmandas, all the dormant jiva souls awaken and continue on within this new secondary universal creation from where they left off in the previous material universal creation.

Everything is temporary in the decaying material creation.

Our secondary material universe deep within our Brahmanda is often called "Bhu-Mandala" which contains 14 different Planetary Systems in it that Srimad Bhagavatam explains is 4 billion miles in diameter.

Other material universes deep inside their Brahmanda, are much bigger and could have hundreds or even thousands of planetary systems and not just 14 like ours. This also means that each material universe is far greater in size than our.

The size of each Brahmanda and their inner universe is based on how many heads Lord Brahma has in each universe, our universe deep inside our Brahmanda has 4 heads however, other universes in other Brahmandas, Lord Brahma can have 10, 20, 100, 100, 1000,000 and even more.

As said above, the number of heads Brahma has determines both the size of the Brahmanda and it's inner material universe within.

Also, our inner material universe that is deep inside our larger Brahmanda universe, lasts 311 trillion 40 billion human years which is also Brahma's life span.

It is important to understand that at the end of Brahma's life and his material universal creation, Garbhodakashayi Vishnu temporarily merges back as one with Maha Vishnu until the next "massive Brahmanda universes" again manifests from His breathing and the pores of His skin.

The sleeping Maha Vishnu (Karanadakashayi Vishnu) then again expands Himself into the inner secondary universe that is deep inside each Brahmanda as Garbhodakashayi Vishnu that is in the centre of each Brahmanda universe.

There is only one Maha Vishnu in all the material creation that makes up 1/4 of the Spiritual Sky but there are billions of Garbhodakashayi Vishnu's and Lord Brahmas.

In this way Karanadakashayi Vishnu (Maha Vishnu) expands Himself as Garbhodakasayi Vishnu and again appears deep within each Brahmanda universal shell and from Him Lord Brahma is again created from Garbhodakasayi Vishnu's navel and creates the different planetary systems within each inner material universe.

Then the "dormant jiva souls" that have been suspended in ''inactivity'' within the Body of Karanadakashayi Vishnu (Maha Vishnu) since the death of Brahma and the annihilation of his planetary systems for 311 trillion 40 billion human years, re-emerge and continue on (their karma) deep within the new Brahmanda creation from where they left off in the previous material creation.*

Lord Ramachandra saw the big bolders Hunaman carried to build the bridge between Sri Lanka and India just as important as small ants carrying grains of sand to build the same bridge because both were giving the very best they could do. Everyone's full potential is different, this is important to understand.

The fact is Krishna (God) is more inclined to help those who FIRST do everything they can to help themselves.

Of course everyone's effort to help themselves is different, meaning as long as one is doing the very best THEY can do, then that is the full potential of their efforts.

Lord Ramachandra saw the big boulders Hunaman carried to build the bridge between Sri Lanka and India just as important as small ants carrying grains of sand to build the same bridge because both were giving the very best they could do.

Everyone's full potential is different, this is important to understand.

Only then will Krishna help you when He sees you trying your very best to help yourself to remember Him.

Krishna actually promises this in the Bhagavad Gita As It Is.

Because of individuality, each jiva has their own independent personality, character and sense of self that allows them to ''choose'' how THEY want to serve Krishna in Goloka-Vrindavan in the loving exchanges of reciprocation.

Krishna loves to see devotees thinking for themselves of what they can offer to Him.

Otherwise if Krishna does everything for you, how can there be genuine love?

One is simply a mindless drone or slave, no, Krishna does NOT want impersonal followers like that.

Real love is reciprocal, it is NEVER a one way street where surrender to Krishna takes away one's sense of self, individuality and unique personality.

The "highest independence" is "choosing" to be fully dependent on Krishna as the unique independent jiva soul one is eternally. In this way choosing to offer the very best of who they are based on their own personality and unique personal individual characteristics.

By acting out their role as the thoughtful caring individual they are, they can offer to Krishna, out of love, the very best of who they are as the perpetual unique person they are.

Free will is NEVER surrendered, only perfected, expanded and eternally acted upon.

The freedom to EVEN stay in Vaikuntha or enter the material creation MUST be the jivas choice in consultation with Krishna because without "free will" for the jiva soul to make their own choice, there can be no real love.

Srila Prabhupada has said not even Krishna can force you to love Him, LOVE or service is based on free will and loving exchanges of reciprocation.

"Unconditional surrender" does NOT mean erasing your individuality, identity and unique personality and become Krishna's mindless yes man/women as many immature fools believed in the 1970s.

Srila Prabhupada told his disciples, if you love me then naturally I will love you.

Our ONLY desire should be getting trained up from a very young age to get out of this temporary decaying material creation and go back home back to Godhead.

A pure devotee is not interested in helping  others achieve material happiness in this mundane material creation.

A pure devotee is not interested in being rewarded with taking birth on the higher material heavenly planets or attempting to build comfortable Cities and Skyscrapers on this Earth Planet trying to find permanent satisfaction and happiness.

Such actions are useless to a pure devotee because nowhere in this material universe will we find our REAL home

Today many humanitarians, Politicians, social workers and religionists are foolishly trying to build the Kingdom of God here on this planet without God.

This is not possible in the material universes that are constantly in a state of decay, decline and in constant need of maintenance.

We should all learn we are the individual perpetual jiva soul trapped within these temporary material bodily containers we are presently trapped in.

All material endeavours for happiness will NOT solve the problems of birth, disease, old age and death.

The purpose of human life is to use this very rare human form of life in devotional service, Street Sankirtan and chanting Hare Krishna so one can eventually get out of this material world.

Srila Prabhupada - ''When the superior energy is in contact with inferior energy, it becomes an incompatible situation. But when the supreme marginal potency is in contact with the spiritual potency, Harā, it becomes the happy, normal condition of the living entity'' - (From the "Happening Album" New York City, New York, USA 1966.)

Lord Krishna with His wonderful friends is where our REAL home is as painting below shows.
