The "gross" material body and its extended "gross" technology, cannot detect the "subtle" heavenly existence on the Moon.
Both the "gross" material bodily form and the "subtle" material bodily form can be in the image of Krsna the Supreme Personality of Godhead and cause of all causes if they choose.
Those who live on Chandraloka do not have a "gross" material body, they have a "subtle" body.
This temporary material world has different grades of material realities, one "subtle" and one "gross" spread out over 14 planetary systems known as the hevenly, earthly and hellish planets.
Only on the middle planetary systems (earthly) do the individual jiva souls live in a gross biological material bodily vessel.
In both the heavenly and hellish planetary systems in the material world, the individual jiva-souls are in a "subtle" material body only.
The individual jiva-soul trapped in a human "gross" material bodily vessel, are housed totally differently from those individual jiva-soul who are housed in a "subtle" material bodily vessel in Chandraloka and on the Sun planet.
The inhabitants of Chandraloka live in a "subtle" body and not a further "gross" material body like on the earth planet.
Therefore, in a "gross" material bodily vessel, it is not possible to perceive or detect in anyway the heavenly realm of Chandraloka on the Moon.
Entering Chandraloka is only possible by previously performing the right good deeds that creates the pious karma that gives one a "subtle" material bodily vessel that allows them to enter the heavenly dimension of Chandraloka on the Moon.
The "gross" material earthly realm can never detect the "subtle" heavenly realm on the Moon.
This is because one has to acquire the right kind of Karmic qualification that allows them to have the right material bodily vessel to enter Chandraloka on the Moon.
There are many different dimensions existing in both "subtle" and "gross" realities in the material world.
Just like in Vrindavana today on earth, Krsna and His "spiritual atmosphere" eternal exists there however, the gross materialist cannot detect or see Kṛṣṇa and His pastimes in Vrindavana and Mathura because they are not qualified.
Similarly, the materialistic Astronauts in their gross material bodies along with gross technology, can never detect or perceive the material heavenly subtle reality called Chandraloka on the Moon.
This means possible future Moon bases on the Moon planned by America, Russia, China, India, European Union etc, will have absolutely no contact or will be able to detect the "subtle" heavenly realm of Chandraloka there.
Was Srila Prabhupada wrong about the Moon?
No, not wrong, but was misunderstood.
This is because Srila Prabhupada was right when he said they cannot enter the heavenly realm of Chandraloka on the Moon in a "gross" material body.
The fact is, the heavenly dimension of Chandraloka on the Moon, is a "subtle" material realm as explained above, so when the Astronauts go to the Moon, or circled the Moon like what happen this week (April 2, 2026), all they can see is the "gross" barron Moon and not the heavenly dimension (subtle) of Chandraloka Moon.
The Astronauts can never percieve the heavenly "subtle" dimension on the Moon in their gross material bodies that includes the spacecraft and its technology also made of "gross" matter.
As said above, to enter the "subtle" dimension of Chandraloka the individual jiva-souls in the must have the right karma that rewards them with a "subtle" material bodily vessel that allows them to enter Chandraloka.
Therefore, the Astronauts from earth in a gross material body could only perceive the "gross" Moon and a barron landscape and not the subtle Moon's celestial heavenly civilization there.
The inhabitants on the Moon's heavenly realm of Chandraloka are in a "subtle material body" that is not like the "gross" earthly material body.
Actually, both the gross material body and the subtle material body in the material world can be in the image of Krsna. This is because the original spiritual bodily form of the individual jiva-soul is similar to Kṛṣṇa's Bodily Form as Srila Prabhupada explains.
As explained above, the individual jiva-souls who are in the material world who choose to live in Chandraloka on the Moon, are not in a "gross" material bodily vessel, they are in a "subtle" material body that is not detected by the "gross" material dimension in the material world.
This material world has different dimensions of subtle and gross realities that also covers the individual jiva-souls in a subtle and gross material bodily vessel.
The individual jiva-souls in an earthly human "gross" material body are housed totally differently from those individual jiva-souls housed in a "subtle" material bodily vessel within the heavenly atmosphere of Chandraloka on the Moon.
The inhabitants of Chandraloka exist in a "subtle" body on the Moon, meaning they are not in a "gross" body like the Astronauts are in when visiting the "gross" Moon from Earth.
Therefore, having a "gross" material body means it is impossible for humans from earth to enter Chandraloka.
Entering Chandraloka is only possible by having the appropriate pious karma that awards the individual jiva-souls the right material bodily vessel that allows them to enter Chandraloka on the Moon.
The gross material realm can never detect the subtle heavenly realm. This is because remaining on the "gross" platform means they have not acquired the pious qualification that gives them the right kind of material bodily vessel that allows them to enter the heavenly dimension of Chandraloka on the Moon.
There are different "material" dimensions in the material world that exist in both subtle and gross material energy.
Just like in Vrindavana today, Krsna and His spiritual atmosphere eternal exists there but the materialist cannot detect that higher dimension because they are not qualified.
Similarly, the materialistic Astronauts from Earth in their gross material material bodies and and the planned Moon bases by the United States, Russia, China, India, European Union etc, will have absolutely no contact with the "subtle" heavenly material dimension of Chandraloka.
Srila Prabhupada told us the heavenly "subtle" material dimension on the Moon is invisible to those in a "gross" biological material body.
Based on Vaniquotes (a compilation of Srila Prabhupada's quotes), the moon is described as a heavenly "subtle" material planet inhabited by demigods (higher classes of living beings who are not in a "gross" material body).
While it is a material planet within the material creation, it is generally considered to be in a higher dimension—or at least a different realm of existence that is "subtle" compared to "gross" Earth, meaning its residents and conditions may not be fully perceived by our gross biological senses.
Subtle/Heavenly Nature:
The moon is considered a heavenly planet (svarga) inhabited by demigods (devatās) in a subtle dimension, not a desolate place seen only on the gross realm or dimension.
Invisible to Gross Senses:
The inhabitants of the moon are higher beings in a subtle material body who cannot be perceived by the gross material body's mundane eyes that earthly human beings have.
It is emphasized that the heavenly planets like the subtle Moon, cannot be reached by gross material vehicles like rockets or satellites; they can only be reached by gaining piety or through appropriate methods.
In essence, Vaniquotes presents the moon as a higher-dimensional heavenly realm that remains effectively unseen and unreachable to mundane human exploration.
Srila Prabhupada's Spiritual Master wrote the Surya Siddhanta that was only found after our Srila Prabhupada left this world and in Surya Siddhanta it says the Moon is not further away from the Earth than the Sun.
Srila Prabhupada said in the 8th Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam that reaching the Moon would take 7 months which we now know, due to Surya Siddhanta, is incorrect.

Also, the recent Moon expedition last week by 4 Astronauts who successfully circled the Moon (April 2, 2026) is proof the moon is only 230/250,000 miles from earth, reached in 2 or 3 days and not 7 months as claimed in Srimad Bhagavatam.
"In the purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 8.10.38, Srila Prabhupāda has stated that at a speed of 18,000 miles per hour, it would take roughly seven months to reach the moon."
This view point in Srimad Bhagavatam needs to be carefully understood. In Srila Prabhupada's Spiritual Master's Book Surya Siddhanta, it teaches the Moon is approximately 51,600 yojanas away from the Earth (one yojana equals approximately 6 to 8 miles).
This distance is estimated to be roughly 108 times the diameter of the Moon, with some calculations interpreting the distance as approximately 230,000/ 250,000 miles from Earth taking 2 to 3 days to reach and not 7 months as said above.
On the "gross Moon" that the Astronauts can only see and experience means they are not qualified to detect the "subtle Moon" heavenly civilization know as Chandraloka that also exists there.
This is the correct understanding.**.
