Is the subtle body that leaves the gross body the soul? No it is NOT the soul, that line of thinking is incorrect, and wrong according to vedic teachings

Is the subtle body that leaves the gross body the soul?

No it is not the soul, that line of thinking is incorrect, and wrong according to vedic teachings

The subtle body or astral body is a MATERIAL vessel of mind, intelligence and false ego.

The subtle body is NOT a spiritual  body, it is material, a vessel that carries the none material soul (jivatma) also decribed by Prabhupada as anti-matter.

This subtle material bodily vessel is what exists on heavenly and hellish worlds also, such living entities there do not have gross biological bodily vessels or container.

The subtle body is also a ghost body also, when one dies they leave their gross biological body in a subtle material vessel, the subtle is NOT spiritual in anyway.

The spiritual bodily form is who one really is.

Both the subtle and gross material coverings have nothing to do with the "the real self known as the individual jiva tattva which is an anti-material perpetual bodily form one is as their full potential in Vaikuntha or Goloka Vrindavan the Kingdom of God.

Unlike the subtle material body or the gross material body that ONLY exist in the material universes.

This material universes are NOT our real home, we should not even be in this temporary universe that is always in need of intense maitanance because the material universes are always in a state of decay and decline governed by Birth, disease, old age and death.

Vaikuntha and Goloka Vrindavan in the perpetual Spiritual Sky, are our REAL home.

These ever youthful and fresh abodes of Lord Krishna are nothing like that horrible place called the material creation.

We do not wear a body in Gods Kingdom like we do in the material world because we ARE the beautiful bodily form - sat, Cit, ananda, VIGRAHA. This is who we are.

The "gross temporary material bodily container or vessel", houses the "subtle material body" which contains or houses the "soul or perpetual jivatma (svarupa bodily person)", which is "the real individual you" in the Spiritual world.

You do not have a body in Gods Kingdom because you ARE the beautiful bodily form -  sat, Cit, ananda, VIGRAHA.

Eternity, Knowledge, Bliss, Form.

Homosexuality is completely selfish and rivets one into material bodily consciousness and identity that makes us think we are this temporary bodily container we are in. The fact is, we are NOT the material bodily vessel we are in

Advanced human beings with higher moral intelligence and consciousness, don't live and act like they did in the Biblical homosexual cities of Sodom and Gomorrah that today's society is sadly accepting as normal.

Those who support same sex unions was predicted long, long ago, describing the qualities of this immoral age of Kali-Yuga, told to us by the great sages and devotees in the Bhagavat Purana.

Same sex marriage and homosexuality, along with killing the cow and eating its flesh, are the degraded sensual so called pleasures prominent in Kali-yuga.

More advanced living entities avoid such activities and see them as demonic because it is based on lust for both sexual relations, based on the sensual feelings of the material bodily vessel one is in, and the consumption of flesh of an innocent animal

The fact is, we are NOT these decaying troublesome material bodies always in need of maintenance, we are the soul within, yet foolishly continue to abuse, exploit and squeeze out as much as we can of so called pleasure from the material container we are trapped in.

Real love between male and male and female and female is beyond the desire for sex and the feelings of the material senses, real love is based on selfless service and NOT the sexual stimulation of the external material vessel.

Homosexuality is completely selfish and rivets one into material bodily consciousness and identity that makes us think we are this temporary bodily container we are in.

The fact is, we are NOT the material body, we are the soul within and REAL love is selfless service.

These are the standards of all great souls through out history.

The 14 planetary systems are collectively known as Bhu-Mandala, which is almost the size of our 4 billion mile diameter universe.

Bhu-Mandala takes up almost our entire universe with its 14 Planetary systems spread throughout the vastness of outer space.

Each planetary system is represented with many global spherical planets.

It is all these planetary systems, spread out within this single universe, that have the appearance of a "vast flat disc of global planets".

This "flat disc" made of innumerable planets, ARE the 14 different planetary systems that are collectively called "Bhu-Mandala."

Bhu-Mandala is almost the diameter of our 4 billion mile single universe, it is NOT our small earth globe.

The planets themselves within each system are round globes, they are NOT flat in anyway.

In this way the 14 planetary systems, collectively known as Bhu-Mandala, is almost the size of our 4 billion mile diameter universe.

Bhu-Mandala is not to be confused with our round global spherical earth we live on.

The 14 different Planetary systems, along with Garbhodakashayi Vishnu and Lord Brahma, are all situated very deep inside of our surrounding outer Brahmanda shell, (almost spherical shaped) greater universe that originates from the Body of Maha Vishnu.

NONE of these planets within those systems are a flat like a pancake!

The global planets in our universe are seen in painting below. The planets in outer space are called dvīpas.

"Dvipa" means both Island in the ocean and global planet in outer space.

Our massive Brahmanda, that our smaller single universe known as Bhu-Mandala with its 14 planetary systems, is deep within, originates from the pours of Maha Vishnu along with billions of other Brahmandas that also have a secondary universe deep within it.

The Earth planet is a "round global sphere" in the ocean of outer space, it is NOT flat as the misinformed foolishly believe, Srila Prabhupada tells us this.

Srila Prabhupada - "On the ground our earth looks flat but when you go up you will see our Earth planet is a ball, a global sphere" (Lecture New York 1966.)

The sanskrit word "Dvīpa" has two meanings -

1 - "Islands" or "continents"

2 - "But also round planetary globes or spheres" situated in the ocean of outer space Srila Prabhupada explains.

Srila Prabhupada - "The planets are called dvīpas. Outer space is like an ocean of air. Just as there are islands in the watery ocean, these planets in the ocean of space are called dvīpas, or islands in outer space" (Chaitanya Caritamrita Madhya 20.218, Purport)#

Past, present, and future all exist simultaneously in the material world in the eyes of Maha Vishnu. And all material bodily vessels we have are obtained from Him like one gets a costume from a costume shop.

The facilities of bodily costumes and their pathway from birth to death is provided by Maha-Vishnu. We are simply the passenger.

Material bodies or vessels we are contained in while active in the material creation, all come from Maha Vishnu's dreaming of the material universes, He provides all material bodily vessels.

Srila Prabhupada – “This material creation is the spirit soul’s dream. Actually all existence in the material world is a dream of Maha-Vishnu, as the Brahma-Samhita describes –

“This material world is created by the dreaming of Maha-Vishnu. The real, factual platform is the spiritual world, but when the spirit soul wants to imitate the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he is put into this dreamland of material creation”. (SB 4.29.83)

Srila Prabhupada - “Everything happening within time, which consists of past, present and future, is merely a dream. This is the secret in understanding in all the Vedic literature.” (SB. 4.29.2b)

Srila Prabhupada - “Our contact with matter is just like dream. Actually we are not fallen. Therefore, because we are not fallen, at any moment we can revive our Krishna consciousness, we break the dream.” (Tokyo Japan 1972: Srimad Bhagavatam 2.9.1)

Srila Prabhupada - "Factually all of material existence is only a dream. Thus there is no question of past, present or future. Persons who are addicted to karma-kanda-vicara, which means ‘working for future happiness through fruitive activities’, are also dreaming. Similarly, past happiness and present happiness are merely dreams" Srimad Bhagavatam (SB 4.29.2b)

Is space-time a fabric in the material world, a roadway of past, present and future that exists simultaneously?

In other words all 'time of past, present and future' exists just like each part of the roadway exists after passing over it. This means that within the fabric of space-time the material body we are in IS part of the road that starts from birth, childhood, youth, middle age, old age and death.

We are simply a passenger ''on the roadway'' because we the soul or jiva is not made of matter that the roadway we are on and bodily vessel we are in is made of.

Past, present, and future all exist simultaneously in the material world to Maha Vishnu because He is God and knows all.

Maha Vishnu dreams the entire material creation which means every possible outcome that the individual jiva souls can think up or imagine.

As a result of this, there are billions of Brahmanda universal shells, each with a smaller universe deep within each Brahmanda and where Maha Vishnu's expansion, Garbhodakashayi Vishnu appears

And from His navel Lord Brahma appears who then builds the different Planetary Systems.

This happens in all the billions of Brahmandas that originate from the pores and breathing of Maha Vishnu.

From above the movement of material time (past, present, and future) all exist simultaneously in the material world always to Maha Vishnu who naturally knows everything, past, present and future.

That should not be surprising, after all, He is Krishna's expansion (Vishnu-tattva that have 93.75% of Krishna's qualities) that creates all the temporary material universes.

So, the question is, can the individual  jiva souls (jiva-tattva that has 78.125% of Krishna's qualities) souls also realize that past, present, and future all exist simultaneously in the material world?

Or does Maha Vishnu and other Vishnu tattva expansion have the only capacity to see this?

The answer is no, other jiva tattva souls can also see this if Vishnu allows it, Arjuna was shown past, present and future by Krishna as told in the Mahabharata chapter Bhagavad Gita.

So yes, Maha Vishnu sees all His dreams of the vast material universes (Brahmands) in full, meaning from beginning, the middle and end as a temporary reality and NOT an illusion, His dreams are real but temporary.

Rare jiva souls who get above the flow of time can also see the whole road, beginning, middle and end, however, this is very rare.

Bhagavad Gita As It Is Chapter 11 Text 7 "The Universal Form"

"Whatever you wish to see can be seen all at once in this body. This universal form can show you all that you now desire, as well as whatever you may desire in the future. Everything is here completely".

PURPORT

”No one can see the entire universe sitting in one place. Even the most advanced scientist cannot see what is going on in other parts of the universe.

Krsna gives him the power to see anything he wants to see, past, present and future. Thus by the mercy of Krsna, Arjuna is able to see everything” (End of Quote)

Akasha is a Sanskrit word meaning “sky”, “space”, “luminous”, or “ether”

The Akashic record is like an immense photographic film of past, present and future that one can tap into anywhere on the table of ”material time”

Even Albert Einstein in his research, concluded in his later years that the past, present, and future all exist simultaneously

Could it be possible with Vedic understanding to understand this fact that past, present and future in the material creation, is happening simultaneously?

From the higher dimensional viewpoint, our material biological bodily vessel is a ‘post’ for the jivatma or soul travels in to experience the material universe (mahat tattva).

This is just like how one travels on the twists and turns of an already built road or pathway? That "road" is the material body you (the anti-material soul or life force) are in

In this way our material bodily vessel ‘IS’ that pathway that can be traversed by unlimited jivas because it is a "permanent post" (meaning reoccurring again when the next material creation manifests) within the dreams of Maha Vishnu.

This is also just another way of seeing the truth that we (the individual jiva soul) are NOT the material bodily vessel we occupy and possess.

Of course understanding this is not easy to comprehend.

Others see this understanding from a mundane viewpoint because they cannot see the bigger picture of how material energy works and therefore cannot understand.

“Time has no independent existence apart from the order of events by which we measure it.” —Albert Einstein

Srila Prabhupada – “No one can see the entire universe sitting in one place. Even the most advanced scientist cannot see what is going on in other parts of the universe. However, Krsna gives him (Arjuna) the power to see anything he wants to see, past, present and future. Thus by the mercy of Krsna, Arjuna is able to see everything”. (Chapter 11, The Universal Form Bhagavad Gita as it is text 7)

We know that every material bodily vessel in the material creation is created by Maha Vishnu.

Such material bodily vessels are the containers that are possessed by an individual jivatma (soul)

These material bodies are simultaneously created (that match Maha Vishnu's dreams) by the rebellious dream state of the jivatma after leaving the anti-material Sky (Vaikuntha and Goloka Vrindavan) that are only found in the material creation.

These material bodily vessels are used by the fallen jiva (known as baddha jiva in the material creation) to get around in while in the mahat tattva (material creation).

These material bodies are ornaments that are parts and parcels of the material creation or mahat tattva.

So does this mean all material vessels we dwell in are always a permanent fixture within the material creation and again manifest with a different batch of souls in a future creation of Maha Vishnu?

And does every material vessel continuously exist each step along the path or roadway within the dimension of past, present and future with different jivas in them passing through that bodily pathway?

How the material creation works is hard to explain and understand, however the concept of eternity also proves there is eternal recurrence because all combinations of material elements will be exhausted to the point material energy starts repeating itself.

Of course this takes quadrillion of years to happen, but it WILL happen because there is no beginning or end the the material creation (1/4 the size of the Spiritual Sky)

The other 3/4s of the Spiritual Sky is anti-matter meaning there is no decay, everything is permanent and the only time is the "eternal presence" and no concept of past, present or future.

The material creation may appear to be re-created and annihilated (due to the journey through past, present and future) however, this is not happening by the passing of time but is rather happening through the journey of time meaning the journey can be repeated by other jivas.

From the bigger picture of seeing past, present and future all together, one sees the mahat-tattva or material energy as it really is.

So Einstein's research was on the right path regarding the movement of time.

Therefore, it is not surprising to understand that many living entities or jivas have experienced the exact same bodily vessel you are presently confined too now and foolishly thinking it is you.

The first step in beginning one's spiritual life is understanding you are NOT the gross material body or its underlining subtle material bodily vessel.

The fact is, any jiva soul is able to experience the some life' path you have right now because each material bodily vessel is a "permanent post" and just a ”costume” the jiva wears that one can also rent from a costume shop owner (Maha Vishnu)

Such costumes (material bodies) are always available for "rent" at the beginning of each new material creation (when Maha Vishnu again breaths out all the billions of Brahmanda universes that each have a smaller universe like our small Bhu-Mandala universe deep inside it.

In this regards the "Costume shop" is Maha Vishnu’s ”dreams” and the jiva soul can rent one of "those dreams" (bodily material vessels) from Maha Vishnu.

The jiva can rent one of the realities Maha Vishnu creates by His dreaming that are also eternally available for rent to all other jivas if they desire or deserve a certain material bodily vessel.

Maha Vishnu's dreams are all inclusive, this means EVERYTHING is possible and every material body on desires is possible.

Every material combination already exists for the jiva soul to experience. Everything in the material creation is owned and "dreamed up" by Maha Vishnu, the jiva soul gets all of these material bodily vessels from ONLY Maha Vishnu.

As previously explained, all material bodily vessels belong to Maha-Vishnu, and we are experiencing His dreaming and simultaneously our material desires through those material bodily vessels He creates through His dreaming.

This is what happens in the material creation while "thinking", we are the material gross (biological) and material subtle body (existing in sub-space not yet discovered by material science in 2020) we presently possess.

Engaging in serving Krishna's pure devotees (through Bhakti and Sankirtan), one can ONLY have the realizations of how this works.

Selfless devotional service enables one to exit the "subtle and gross" material bodily dreams of Maha Vishnu's material creation, and most importantly, the mysterious subtle body and again regain the memory of one's genuine perpetual anti-material "nitya-siddha body" (the jiva souls full potential) in Vaikuntha or Goloka Vrindavan.

Keep in mind, when absolute knowledge of selfless loving Bhakti is realized and acted upon, all the material gross bodily and subtle vessels within the material creation, are not only seen as counterfeit bodies or vessels the jiva soul is provided with by Maha-Vishnu, but are also mundane ‘posts’ that others jiva souls can also experience if they choose to enter the material creation.

This is because such material vessels are borrowed costumes or-outfits’ coming from Maha Vishnu.

Such material vessels have been worn again and again within Maha-Vishnu’s material universal stage drama of the material existence (1/4 of the Spiritual Sky) experienced by an unlimited flow of jiva souls before us and after us possessing them.

Therefore, an unlimited number jivas over a period of many, many material creations of Maha-Vishnu, have lived in material bodies that are constantly created over and over again in the cycle of material creations Maha Vishnu creates with his breathing as He sleeps and dreams the material creation.

This process of universal cycles are eternal.

The jiva soul wears material bodily vessels that are provided by Maha-Vishnu so they can act out there material desires that are simultaneously part of  Maha Vishnu's script (dream) of the material creation.

The Director of all material affairs is Maha-Vishnu who's dreams are chosen by a visting jiva soul that are insink with their own material desires or dreams of enjoying separate from Krishna the Supreme Personality of Godhead and cause of all causes.

The jiva soul then chooses to leave the anti-material Spiritual Worlds of Vaikuntha or Goloka Vrindavan.

Simply free will and the ability to choose for themselves caused the jiva soul to fall from Vaikuntha or Goloka to the material creation.

There is no material cause for the the jiva souls fall down from Vaikuntha or Goloka Vrindavan.

Originally all jiva souls come from either Vaikuntha or Goloka Vrindavan and fall to the material creation where they acquire a material vessel of Maha Vishnu.

There are two sources to enter the material creation.

1 - From Vaikuntha and Goloka Vrindavan.

2 - From the dormant inactive impersonal Brahmajyoti or impersonal Brahman.

Those jiva souls who enter the material creation from the "inactive" Brahmajyoti or Brahman had long, long, long ago originally fell from either Vaikuntha or Goloka Vrindavan.

After spending many births in the material creation, they become frustrated by its temporary nature from seeing that they spend an entire life building their life's fortune and dreams, only to have it all taken away at the time of death of their material body.

So instinctly they plan to end their mundane existence by attempting to merge themselves into the impersonal Brahmajyoti.

To do this they become a yogi or jnani (philosopher) but unknown to them, even if they succeed in merging their individuality into the impersonal Brahman or Brahmajyoti and "hover" their as an individual inactive "spark" for trillions of years, it is only temporary, again they will enter the material creation whether they like it or not.

Why?

Because the nature of the soul is "activity" and NEVER to be inactive.

All material bodily vessels always eternally exist in Maha Vishnu's dream of the material creation.

This means all material vessels ARE repeated again in the next manifestion of the material creation.

In other words such material costumes (bodily vessels) worn by each visiting jiva soul, are always exist in blue print so they can again become a reality in the next material creation, every time the material universes are re-created by Maha-Vishnu after their annihilation.

Looking from above "outside the realm of past, present and future", one can observes the entire winding roadway or pathway of each material bodily vessel and see at every stage the bodily vessel exists each step on the road through the journey of time and space.

It must be clearly understood that the perpetual ever youthful and fresh "eternal presence" of Goloka and Vaikuntha, exists in the 3/4 of the "anti-material" part of the Spiritual Sky.

Whereas the material creation (mahat-tattva) is known as a dark temporary  cloud always in a state of decline and decay in 1/4 of the Spiritual Sky governed by past, present and future.

Therefore, within the material creation, which is the temporary, impermanent and always in a state of decay facet of the Spiritual Sky or Brahmajyoti, takes up only 1/4 of the Spiritual Sky and is where rebellious jiva souls experience the mundane journey of past, present and future.

On the other hand, the ‘eternal presence’ of Vaikuntha and Goloka Vrindavan takes up 3/4 of the Spiritual Sky as already explained

So in the material creation this means the jiva soul is trapped in an aging decaying outer material bodily shell that is perishable and experiences constant decay and decline with the movement and journey of material time.

This temporary effect of the material body is natural to the material creation’s subtle and biological (gross) material bodies and their surroundings.

Like frames in a movie canister where each frame always exists together and at the same time as a part of the over all film canister or cylinder, similarly, the material material biological costumes in the the material creation always exist from its birth, to youth, middle age and death from the bigger picture.

Each step of the vessel or material body is like the frame in the film canister and that canister is compared to the material creation.

Just like a film is made up of frame by frame pictures, the bodily material costume and their surrounding are both decorations and ornaments of the material creation and are also divided into frame by frame realities that are ‘moving’ within the perpetual blue-print of past, present and future of the material creation that the jiva soul simply passes through.

The facilities of bodily costumes and their entire pathway from birth to death, is provided by Maha-Vishnu.

We are simply passengers in His material bodily creations (costumes) playing out His dreams that are simultaneously our dreams.

The jiva soul's material desires cannot be fulfilled without the provisions of Maha-Vishnu.

Even when Arjuna was with Krsna, he was afraid because he could see all past, present and future – seeing the future activity of his family and himself indicates the future already exists for all of us to pass through, just like one traverse a road already built.

God knows EVERYTHING, He knows the path of every material bodies journey from beginning, middle and end, after all Maha Vishnu created this material universe and knows all.

Vaikunthaloka is the real PERSONAL world of individuality and real freedom, freedom to eternally serve Krishna where as the material universe is impersonal and artificial because the material body we are in is an outer garment or costume and not who we really are.

To be free from that, from all those material bodies we move through in the overlapping of time, we must re-establish our original relationship with Krishna in Vaikuntha or Goloka Vrindavana where you ARE your a‘spiritual’ body and do NOT have an an external bodily shell or vessel

All these material costumes or bodily containers or vessels the jiva possess, are also available to other jivas too, all purchased from Maha Vishnu’s material dreaming of this universe.

The ultimate realization is we are all ‘individual jivas with a spiritual form that is NOT material.

That realization is only possible when we understand that Vaikuntha or Goloka Vrindavana, which are beyond the mundane material universe, are our original eternal home.

When one is free from the material universe’s temporary bodily containers, they realize their true identity and individuality as Krishna’s eternal servant, as one's original svarupa or spiritual form, this is the highest realization in the universe.

The material energy that the ‘individual’ soul is covered by, is ‘one.’ it is the jivas that occupy those bodily containers that are the "individual souls" and NOT the material energy that is the covering or material bodily vessel.

When that material covering or bodily vessel dissolves, it merges back into the mahat tattva or material elements as ”ONE”, yes ‘ONE”.

"Material energy alone is lifeless", always changing and is "one", where as spiritual energy is always alive, always fully pervasive within the spiritual sky as "individual" jiva tattvas and Vishnu tattvas.

The material energy or bodily covering of the ‘individual’ jiva or soul in the material creation is ‘one’, where as the Spiritual energy is made up of individual living entities or units know as the jiva tattvas who all emanate from Krishna the Supreme Personality of Godhead .

Actually it is a fact not understood by everyone, that ”everything” in the material creation already exists and we simply travel though it like on an already guilt roadway made of material energy that is already there and has always existed.

We simply get a material body, vessel or pathway according to our desire, and then get further bodies also according to our desires and inner dreams.

The material body we get acts how we would ”choose” to act but this is already known by Maha Vishnu in His dreams

From Maha Vishnu’s point of View EVERYTHING in His material universes, past, present and future already exists.

To be free from this material world, we must reestablish our original perpetual relationship with Krishna.

Our original eternal svarupa is outside the realm of past, present and future and established in the ”eternal presence” of Krishna.

Maha Vishnu knows past, present and future, that is clear, but is also inconceivable to us because we see things and and think ‘how can anyone know what I am going to do next,’ how can anyone know the future?

Well, Maha Vishnu already knows EVERYTHING, this is what is meant by –

"Every material vessel that we, the individual jiva, occupy, already has its own pathway that is already mapped out.

Krishna showed Arjuna ALL past, present and future in the material universe.

God knows EVERYTHING, He knows the path of every material body, He knows how you will act before you act, it is His dream we are the renter, after all Maha Vishnu created this material universe.

Vaikuntha Loka the real ‘PERSONAL eternal Spiritual world of individuality and real freedom, freedom to eternally serve Krishna

The ultimate realization is we are all ‘individual jivas AS a spiritual bodily form that is NOT material, that realization is only possible when we understand that Vaikuntha is our original home as Krishna’s eternal servant

Predestination is operating from the point of view of the Maha Vishnu only.

We, jivas, live in the movement of time and so have a clearly defined past and future. Maha Vishnu is beyond time and the concepts of past, present and future do not exist on His level. Thus we will interpret our present experience as due to past events and we have no capacity to see the future but Maha Vishnu does.

At most we can calculate probabilities of what will happen in future. There is no such restriction to Maha Vishnu because it is beyond the concept of time and space.

From His point of view everything is known, past, present, and future all exist simultaneously in the material world to Maha Vishnu, He sees His dreams of the material universe in full beginning, middle and end.

Srila Prabhupada  - "Krishna gave Arjuna the power to see anything he wants to see, past, present and future. Thus by the mercy of Krsna, Arjuna is able to see everything". (Bhagavad Gita As It Is Chapter 7 text)

Remember we do not have a soul because we ARE the soul known as the jiva tattva in these temporary material bodily vessels we are in that is eternal without beginning or end as the Bhagavad Gita As It Is tells us.

Chapter 2: Contents of the Gita Summarized

TEXT 20

TRANSLATION

For the soul there is never birth nor death. Nor, having once been, does he ever cease to be. He is unborn, eternal, ever-existing, undying and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain.

We are not the millions of material bodies we possess in this material vast Universe.

The consort of Jagannatha eats non-vegetarian food once an year, She is the Goddess Vimala.

Goats are sacrificed within the premises of the Jagannath temple in Puri on the eighth day of Navratri?

The consort of Jagannatha eats non-vegetarian food once an year, She is the Goddess Vimala.

Jagannatha of Puri is one of the holiest shrines in India. The Goddess Vimala eats only after Jagannatha has had his fill.

Since Jagannatha is a strict vegetarian, all dishes are vegetarian and they are offered to him as Prasad and then the Goddess.

However, once an year, the goddess turns non-vegetarian and she is offered meat and fish. During this time, Vaishnavas are barred from entering the temple and the non-veg food is offered to her before the doors of the Jagannatha temple are opened. You see, Jagannatha otherwise would get angry if he sees his consort having the choicest non-veg fare.

This is Goddess Vimala who resides near Jagannatha in a separate temple. This temple is within the compound of the sprawling Jagannatha temple at Puri in Orissa.

The Goddess survives on the remnants or left overs (Ucchishta) of Jagannath's meals. After they are placed before her, the vegetarian food is sanctified as mahaprasada.

The mahaprasad consists of dried rice mixed with grated coconut, cheese, curd and butter. The Shankaracharya, who is also the head of the Govardhana matha, receives a pot of the mahaprasad and a plate of Khichdi that is offered to the Goddess.

There is an interesting behind the offering the left over, which otherwise is a taboo in Hindu religion. Shiva once visited Vishnu in his Vaikunta. He saw that a few food grains (Ucchishta) had fallen on the ground after Vishnu finished his meal.

Shiva then picked up a grain of the Ucchishta and swallowed it. However, another grain stuck on to his beard. Narada saw it and he ate it. This angered Parvati who felt that she should have been offered the grain as she is the other half of Shiva.

She then came to Vishnu and complained about it. Vishnu then pacified her, saying that in the Kali Yuga, she would live at Puri as Vimala, and would daily eat the remnants of the food offered to him.

The only time in the year when separate food is cooked for Vimla is when she is offered non-vegetarian offerings. This happens only during Durga Puja.

Vimala, who is an avatar of Durga, is offered non-vegetarian food and animal sacrifice as she is considered to assume a destructive form during the festival.

Meat is, therefore, considered necessary to placate her. A male goat is sacrificed in her temple during pre dawn hours and this is done in total secrecy.

Fish from the sacred Markanda temple tank is cooked and offered to Vimala, as per Tantric rituals.

All these rituals have to be completed before the doors of the main sanctum of the vegetarian Jagannath are opened at dawn and the first morning arti is offered to him.

During this period, Vaishnava devotees of Jagannath are barred from entering the temple. The few who witness the ceremony are given the Bimala parusa (Vimala's cuisine) as prasad.

Devotees first visit this temple and then see Jagannatha.

The Rohini kunda or the tirtha (sacred pool) of Vimala temple is considered holy. Tantrics often visit the temple, which they consider more important than the central Jagannath shrine.

Interestingly, women are not allowed to enter the Vimala temple during the 16-day Durga pooja festival which generally occurs in October. Vimala is then supposed to take on a more destructive form and women are considered too “weak-hearted” to witness her.

The Vimala Temple faces east and is built of sandstone and laterite. The temple was renovated by the ASI in 2005.

Puri is in Orissa and it is easily approachable by road or rail. It is well connected to all parts of India. Bubaneshwar, the capital of Orissa, is 60 kms away and the journey takes a little more than an hour.

Puri is also famous for the Govardhana matha, one of the four, established by Shankaracharya. Its beach is famous for being ideal to swim.

Our small Earth globe is NOT Bhu-Mandala that is described in Srimad Bhagavatam and EARTH is the first layer of the Brahmanda shell surrounding our inner Universe.

The massive egg shaped Universal shells, that each have a smaller single Universes deep inside them, are known as Brahmandas, as seen in the painting below.

All these massive Brahmandas that cover and encase their inner smaller single Universe, originate from the Body of Maha Vishnu.

Our small single Bhu-Mandala Universe, with its 14 planetary Systems that is deep inside one of them, is 4 billion miles (500,000,000 Yojanas) in diameter.

Sadaputa dasa ACBSP (Richard L. Thompson) earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from Cornell University. He is the author of several books on Vedic Cosmology explain what Bhu-Mandala is-

''In the Bhagavatam, Bhu Mandala—the “earth mandala” (not to be confused with our small earth globe), is a disk 500 million yojanas in diameter.

Our small Earth global round sphere is only 24,901 miles in circumference and is 7,917.5 miles in diameter.

Therefore our small Earth globe is NOT Bhu-Mandala that is described in Srimad Bhagavatam as 500 million yojanas in diameter (4 billion miles in diameter or 12.6 billion miles in circumference).

A yojana is a unit of distance about 8 miles long, and so the diameter of Bhu Mandala is about 4 billion miles which is the size of our single universe.

Bhu Mandala is marked by circular features designated as islands (Dvipas that can also mean planets) and oceans.

Srila Prabhupada -"The "planets" are called "dvīpas". Outer space is like an ocean of air. Just as there are islands in the watery ocean, these planets in the ocean of space are called dvīpas, or islands in outer space" (Caitanya Caritamrita Madhya 20.218, Purport)

Bhu-Mandala is far too big to be our small earth globe.

Our small single universe with its 14 planetary Systems would therefore fit in the circumference of Bhu-Mandala. (4 billion miles (500,000,000 Yojanas) diameter)

Of course, Bhu Mandala is earth centered. Its innermost island, Jambudvipa, contains Bharata-varsha, which Srila Prabhupada has repeatedly identified as the planet earth''. (End of quote)

The first covering of our universe's shell (Brahmanda) that surrounds and encases our single universe, is EARTH (Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 6 Chapter 16 Text 37)

In most references in Bhagavatam, it is said the ''Earth covering encasement'' is the first layer of our single universe's surrounding Brahmanda shell.

There are billions of these Brahmanda greater Egg shaped universal shells, each with a smaller single universe of planetary systems deep within it. All Brahmanda's originates from the Body of Maha Vishnu as seen in photo.

Although Srimad-Bhagavatam Canto 3 Chapter 26 Text 52 says water is the first layer.

However MOST references say the seven layers of the Brahmanda our single universe is deep within, begins with Earth.

Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 6 Chapter 16 Text 37-

''Every universe is covered by seven layers—earth, water, fire, air, sky, the total energy and false ego—each ten times greater than the previous one. There are innumerable universes besides this one, and although they are unlimitedly large, they move about like atoms in You. Therefore You are called unlimited [ananta]''.

PURPORT

This verse describes the coverings of the universe (saptabhir daśa-guṇottarair aṇḍa-kośaḥ).

1 - The first covering is EARTH,
2 - the second is WATER,
3 - the third is FIRE,
4 - the fourth is AIR,
5 - the fifth is SKY,
6 - the sixth is the TOTAL MATERIAL ENERGY (MAHAT TATTVA),
7 - the seventh is the FALSE EGO.

Beginning with the covering of earth, each covering is ten times greater than the previous one. Thus we can only imagine how great each universe is, and there are many millions of universes". (Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 6 Chapter 16 Text 37)

Srila Prabhupada - ''The mahat-tattva, the total material energy, is called avyakta. Then, when it is agitated by the glance of the Supreme Lord, the three modes of material nature acts. And by interaction of these three modes of material nature, the whole cosmic manifestation comes into being''. (Lecture on SB 1.2.33 -- Vrndavana, November 12, 1972)

Srila Prabhupada - ''So actually, there are twenty-six different elements which is conducting this material world. Etat kṣetraṁ samāsena sa-vikāram udāhṛtam. Kṣetra means this body. Either you take this body or this material world, they are interaction of these twenty-four elements.

Either you take the gigantic body of this universe or you take the body of this planet or you take this your body, my body, or a cat's body, dog's body, all these bodies, they are formed of these twenty-four elements, sa-vikāram, by action and reaction.

Just like chemically, if you mix one chemical with another chemical, a third element is produced, similarly, originally the reservation of all these elements is called mahat-tattva. It is called pradhāna, upadhāna.

So gradually they manifest, they divide by three guṇas. Three guṇas means in the mahat-tattva, in the total material reservoir, three guṇas, three modes of nature, first of all appear and they act with one another, and then gradually, one after another, the twenty-four elements become manifested. Etat kṣetraṁ samāsena sa-vikāram udāhṛtam. (Lecture on BG 13.6-7 -- Montreal, October 25, 1968)

Srila Prabhupada - ''So mahat-tattva, the total material energy, and six, five elements, sixteen, sixteen, ṣoḍaśa-kalam.

What are those?

The five elements, namely, earth, water, fire, air, and sense objects and senses and the spirit soul. In this way, sixteen. And from sixteen, it expands to twenty-four. That is the explanation of our Vedic creation. Ṣoḍaśa-kalam. (Lecture on SB 1.3.1 -- Vrndavana, November 14, 1972)

Srila Prabhupada - ''The total energy of material creation is called mahat-tattva or pradhāna. Then, when the mahat-tattva is agitated by the three guṇas, then they become divided into twenty-four elements. (Lecture on SB 3.26.11-14 -- Bombay, December 23, 1974)

Srila Prabhupada - ''That mahat-tattva is above this universe, above the sky. Above the sky there are seven layers. Each layer is ten times more than the other layer. In this way, that is called mahat-tattva. Total material elements, they are stocked there. And then these varieties take place. And above that mahat-tattva, there is spiritual world. (Lecture on SB 3.26.10 -- Bombay, December 22, 1974)

As confirmed by the Lord Himself in Bhagavad-gītā (BG 10.42):-

athavā bahunaitena
kiṁ jñātena tavārjuna
viṣṭabhyāham idaṁ kṛtsnam
ekāṁśena sthito jagat.

"But what need is there, Arjuna, for all this detailed knowledge? With a single fragment of Myself I pervade and support this entire universe."

The entire material world manifests is only one fourth of the Supreme Lord's energy. Therefore He is called ananta''.

Srimad-Bhagavatam Canto 2 Chapter 2 Text 28 Purport-

Srila Prabhupada - ''The extent of the cosmic phenomenon or our individual universe is calculated to be diametrically four billion miles in size.

Then the outer covering known as the ''Brahmanda shell'' begins.

The first covering of EARTH is calculated to extend forty billion miles, (10 times the size of the inner universe) and the subsequent coverings of the universe are respectively of water, fire, air, sky, total material energy, false ego one after another, each extending ten times further than the previous.

The fearless devotee of the Lord penetrates each one of them and ultimately reaches the absolute atmosphere where everything is of one and the same spiritual identity.

Then the devotee enters one of the Vaikuṇṭha planets, where he assumes exactly the same form as the Lord and engages in the loving transcendental service of the Lord.

That is the highest perfection of devotional life.

Beyond this there is nothing to be desired or achieved by the perfect yogī." (Srimad-Bhagavatam Canto 2 Chapter 2 Text 28 Purport)

Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 3 Chapter 29 Text 43-

Srila Prabhupada  - "The first layer is of EARTH, and it is ten times greater in size than the space within the universe;

The second layer is WATER, and that is ten times greater than the earthly layer;

The third covering is FIRE, which is ten times greater than the water covering. In this way each layer is ten times greater than the previous one''.(Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 3 Chapter 29 Text 43)

Srimad Bhagavatam says there are millions of individual Brahmanda universes coming from Maha Vishnu making up the entire material creation (1/4 of the Spiritual Sky) that also house their own inner universe.

All smaller universes inside their Brahmandas are of different sizes, some, like ours, are only 4 billion miles in diameter.

The "4 billion miles (500,000,000 Yojanas)" diameter of our universe with its 14 planetary systems is one of the smallest.

Srila Prabhupada - ''We have to imagine that these universes (Brahmandas), which according to our limited knowledge are expanded unlimitedly, are so great that the gross and subtle ingredients—the five elements of the cosmic manifestation, namely earth, water, fire, air and sky, along with the total material energy and false ego—are NOT only within the universe but cover the universe in seven layers, each layer ten times bigger than the previous one.

In this way, each and every universe is very securely packed, and there are numberless universes. All these universes float within the innumerable pores of the transcendental body of Mahā-Viṣṇu.

It is stated that just as the atoms and particles of dust are floating within the air along with the birds and their number cannot be calculated, so innumerable universes are floating within the pores of the transcendental body of the Lord. For this reason, the Vedas say that God is beyond the grasp of our knowledge.'' (Krsna Book 87)

We CANNOT see from one universe to another, this is because our individual universe is surrounded and encased by 7 thick material layers that is our outer shell egg shaped universe called a Brahmanda.

So it is impossible to see the millions of other Brahmandas outside our inner universe (inside a massive Brahmanda) because of those 7 thick material layers that only rare mystic yogis and advanced devotees like Arjuna can see and pass through.

So of course Krishna and Arjuna did not encounter such limitations that we experience with the combination of these elements like earth, water, fire all gross elements as Bhagavad Gita explains.

Srila Prabhupada - ''The Lord is not visible to the eyes of ordinary men, those who are beyond the covering layers because of their transcendental devotional service can still see Him''. (Krsna Book 87.)

We cannot see through our Brahmanda that surrounds and encases our small universe, Srila Prabhupada is clear on this.

Srila Prabhupada - ''Lord Krishna and Arjuna crossed over the great region of darkness covering the material universes. Arjuna then saw the effulgence of light known as the brahmajyoti. The brahmajyoti is situated ''outside the covering of the material universes'', and because it cannot be seen with our present eyes, this brahmajyoti is sometimes called avyakta''. (Krsna Book, 89)

Srila Prabhupada - ''Each universe is covered by various layers of material elements (The 7 layers make up the outer Brahmanda covering beginning with Earth, then water, then fire, then air, then sky, then total material energy or mahat tattva, then false ego), and therefore although the universes are clustered together, we CANNOT see from one universe to another.

In other words, whatever we see is within this one universe.

In each universe there is one Lord Brahmā, and there are other demigods on other planets, but there is only one sun''.- (Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 5 Chapter 21 Text 11, Purport)

In the purport in Srimad-Bhagavatam Canto 2 Chapter 2 Text 28-

Śrīla Śrīdhara Svāmī confirms that a part of the material nature, after being initiated by the Lord, is known as the mahat-tattva.

A fractional portion of the mahat-tattva is called the false ego. A portion of the ego is the vibration of sound, and a portion of sound is atmospheric air.

A portion of the airy atmosphere is turned into forms, and the forms constitute the power of electricity or heat.

Heat produces the smell of the aroma of the earth, and the gross earth is produced by such aroma. And all these combined together constitute the cosmic phenomenon.

The extent of the cosmic phenomenon or our individual universe is calculated to be diametrically four billion miles in size.

Then the outer covering, known as the Brahmanda shell begins.

Beyond this there is nothing to be desired or achieved by the perfect yogī."

Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 6 Chapter 16 Text 37

kṣity-ādibhir eṣa kilāvṛtaḥ
saptabhir daśa-guṇottarair aṇḍa-kośaḥ
yatra pataty aṇu-kalpaḥ
sahāṇḍa-koṭi-koṭibhis tad anantaḥ

Synonyms:

kṣiti-ādibhiḥ — by the ingredients of the material world, headed by earth; eṣaḥ — this; kila — indeed; āvṛtaḥ — covered; saptabhiḥ — seven; daśa-guṇa-uttaraiḥ — each ten times more than the previous one; aṇḍa-kośaḥ — egg-shaped universe; yatra — in whom; patati — falls; aṇu-kalpaḥ — like a minute atom; saha — with; aṇḍa-koṭi-koṭibhiḥ — millions of such universes; tat — therefore; anantaḥ — (You are called) unlimited.

Translation:

Every universe is covered by seven layers — earth, water, fire, air, sky, the total energy and false ego — each ten times greater than the previous one. There are innumerable universes besides this one, and although they are unlimitedly large, they move about like atoms in You. Therefore You are called unlimited [ananta].

Purport:

The Brahma-saṁhitā (5.48) says:

yasyaika-niśvasita-kālam athāvalambya
jīvanti loma-vilajā jagad-aṇḍa-nāthāḥ
viṣṇur mahān sa iha yasya kalā-viśeṣo
govindam ādi-puruṣaṁ tam ahaṁ bhajāmi

The origin of the material creation is Mahā-Viṣṇu, who lies in the Causal Ocean. While He sleeps in that ocean, millions of universes are generated as He exhales, and they are all annihilated when He inhales.

This Mahā-Viṣṇu is a plenary portion of a portion of Viṣṇu, Govinda (yasya kalā-viśeṣaḥ). The word kalā refers to a plenary portion of a plenary portion.

From Kṛṣṇa, or Govinda, comes Balarāma; from Balarāma comes Saṅkarṣaṇa; from Saṅkarṣaṇa, Nārāyaṇa; from Nārāyaṇa, the second Saṅkarṣaṇa; from the second Saṅkarṣaṇa, Mahā-Viṣṇu; from Mahā-Viṣṇu, Garbhodakaśāyī Viṣṇu; and from Garbhodakaśāyī Viṣṇu, Kṣīrodakaśāyī Viṣṇu. Kṣīrodakaśāyī Viṣṇu controls every universe.

This gives an idea of the meaning of ananta, unlimited. What is to be said of the unlimited potency and existence of the Lord? This verse describes the coverings of the universe (saptabhir daśa-guṇottarair aṇḍa-kośaḥ).

The first covering is earth, the second is water, the third is fire, the fourth is air, the fifth is sky, the sixth is the total material energy, and the seventh is the false ego.

Beginning with the covering of earth, each covering is ten times greater than the previous one. Thus we can only imagine how great each universe is, and there are many millions of universes. As confirmed by the Lord Himself in Bhagavad-gītā (10.42):

athavā bahunaitena
kiṁ jñātena tavārjuna
viṣṭabhyāham idaṁ kṛtsnam
ekāṁśena sthito jagat

But what need is there, Arjuna, for all this detailed knowledge? With a single fragment of Myself I pervade and support this entire universe.”

The entire material world manifests only one fourth of the Supreme Lord’s energy. Therefore He is called ananta. (End of Purport)

Is the first layer of our outer Brahmanda shell Earth or water?

There is some passages in Bhagavatam that says the first layer is earth and other places it says the first layer is water.

Srila Prabhupada says there are 7 layers that make up our outer Brahmanda shell that surrounds our single universe that is deep within it, 8 including our 4 billion miles diameter universe within the greater massive Brahmanda.

The circumference of our small single universe inside the Brahmanda shell is 12.6 billion miles. And within that area are the 14 Planetary Systems.

Srila Prabhupada - ''The extent of the cosmic phenomenon or our individual universe is calculated to be diametrically four billion miles in size.

Then the outer covering known as the Brahmanda shell begins.

The first covering of Earth is calculated to extend forty billion miles, (10 times the size of the inner universe) and the subsequent coverings of the universe are respectively of water, fire, air, sky, total material energy, false ego one after another, each extending ten times further than the previous" (Srimad-Bhagavatam Canto 2 Chapter 2 Text 28 Purport)

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura is referring to the circumference of our Brahmanda universal shell our single universe is within in following text-

Caitanya Caritamrita Madhya 21.84:

Translation

“Kṛṣṇa said, ‘Your particular universe has a diameter of four billion miles; therefore it is the smallest of all the universes. Consequently you have only four heads''.

Purport

Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura, one of the greatest astrologers of his time, gives information from the Siddhānta-śiromaṇi that this universe measures 18,712,069,200,000,000 × 8 miles (That's 18 quadrillion, 712 Trillion, 69 Billion, 200 million yojanas × 8. So multiply that figure by 8 to get miles which is 149 quadrillion 696 Trillion 553 Billion 600 million miles in circumference).

This is the circumference of this universe. According to some, this is only half the circumference''. End of quote

This is circumference of our ''Brahmanda Universal shell'' that includes our 4 billion mile diameter universe that is deep within it or half its size according to some.

There are 7 layers surrounding our small 4 billion mile diameter ''Bhu-Mandala'' Universe that has 14 planetary systems in it.

Each material layer or element our small universe is surrounded by, is 10 times thicker than the previous layer

Starting with the small 4 billion mile diameter Bhu-Mandala Universe that is very deep within the Brahmanda Egg shaped larger ''gigantic'' universe that come from Maha Vishnu along with millions of others.

So just multiply each layer by 10

For example the 4 billion miles diameter Bhu-Mandala = 40 billion.

Then you multiply 40 billion by 10.

Like this for all 7 layers of material elements and it adds up too 44 Quadrillion 444 Trillion 444 billion miles.

The first covering of the universe is earth, and it is ten times thicker than the universe itself. If the universe is four billion miles in size, then the size of the earthly covering of the universe is four billion times ten.

Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.11.40

This phenomenal material world is expanded to a diameter of four billion miles, as a combination of eight material elements transformed into sixteen further categories, within and without, as follows.

PURPORT

As explained before, the entire material world is a display of sixteen diversities and eight material elements. The analytical studies of the material world are the subject matter of Sāńkhya philosophy.

The first sixteen diversities are the eleven senses and five sense objects, and the eight elements are the gross and subtle matter, namely earth, water, fire, air, sky, mind, intelligence and ego.

All these combined together are distributed throughout the entire universe, which extends diametrically to four billion miles.

Besides this universe of our experience, there are innumerable other universes. Some of them are bigger than the present one, and all of them are clustered together under similar material elements as described below.

Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.11.41

TRANSLATION

The layers or elements covering the universes are each ten times thicker than the one before, and all the universes clustered together appear like atoms in a huge combination.

PURPORT

The coverings of the universes are also constituted of the elements of earth, water, fire, air and ether, and each is ten times thicker than the one before. The first covering of the universe is earth, and it is ten times thicker than the universe itself.

If the universe is four billion miles in size, then the size of the earthly covering of the universe is four billion times ten.

The covering of water is ten times greater than the earthly covering, the covering of fire is ten times greater than the watery covering, the covering of air is ten times greater than that of the fire, the covering of ether is ten times greater still than that of air, and so on.

The universe within the coverings of matter appears to be like an atom in comparison to the coverings, and the number of universes is unknown even to those who can estimate the coverings of the universes.

Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.11.42

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, is therefore said to be the original cause of all causes. Thus the spiritual abode of Viṣṇu is eternal without a doubt, and it is also the abode of Mahā-Viṣṇu, the origin of all manifestations.

PURPORT

Lord Mahā-Viṣṇu, who is resting in yoga-nidrā on the Causal Ocean and creating innumerable universes by His breathing process, only temporarily appears in the mahat-tattva for the temporary manifestation of the material worlds.

He is a plenary portion of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, and thus although He is nondifferent from Lord Kṛṣṇa, His formal appearance in the material world as an incarnation is temporary.

The original form of the Personality of Godhead is actually the svarūpa, or real form, and He eternally resides in the Vaikuṇṭha world (Viṣṇuloka).

The word mahātmanaḥ is used here to indicate Mahā-Viṣṇu, and His real manifestation is Lord Kṛṣṇa, who is called parama, as confirmed in the Brahma-saḿhitā:

īśvaraḥ paramaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ
sac-cid-ānanda-vigrahaḥ
anādir ādir govindaḥ
sarva-kāraṇa-kāraṇam

[Bs. 5.1]

“The Supreme Lord is Kṛṣṇa, the original Personality of Godhead known as Govinda. His form is eternal, full of bliss and knowledge, and He is the original cause of all causes.”

Do the maths yourself based on Srimad-Bhagavatam and work out the massive size of our Brahmanda Egg shaped Universe.

Śrīmad Bhāgavatam Canto 3 Chapter 11 Text 41

The layers or elements covering the universes are each ten times thicker than the one before. (End of Text)

Srimad-Bhagavatam Canto 3 Chapter 26 Text 52

This universal egg, or the universe in the shape of an egg, is called the manifestation of material energy.

Its layers of water, air, fire, sky, ego and mahat-tattva increase in thickness one after another.

Each layer is ten times bigger than the previous one, and the final outside layer is covered by pradhāna.

Within this egg is the universal form of Lord Hari, of whose body the fourteen planetary systems are parts.

PURPORT

Srila Prabhupada - There are seven coverings, each one ten times greater than the one preceding it.

The layer of water is ten times greater than the diameter of the universe, and the layer of fire is ten times greater than that of water.

Similarly, the layer of air is ten times greater than that of fire.

These dimensions are all inconceivable to the tiny brain of a human being.

It is also stated that this description is of only one egg like universe. There are innumerable universes besides this one, and some of them are many, many times greater.

It is considered, in fact, that this universe is the smallest; therefore the predominating superintendent, or Brahmā, has only four heads for management.

In other universes, which are far greater than this one, Brahmā has more heads.

In the Caitanya-caritāmṛta it is stated that all these Brahmās were called one day by Lord Kṛṣṇa on the inquiry of the small Brahmā, who, after seeing all the larger Brahmās. (End of Purport)

There is some confusion in Bhagavatam as in one place it says the first layer is earth and in another place it says the first layer is water.

Also in many cases only 6 layers are mentioned and the names change to like Maha tattva is said to be a layer in one purport and ether is not even mentioned in others.

Srila Prabhupada says there are 7 layers 8 including the original 4 billion miles in diameter or 12.6 billion miles in circumference that has 14 Planetary Systems in it  inner Bhu-Mandala universe.

Anyway one can do their own maths, start with the size of our Universe Bhu-Mandala.

There are 7 layers of elements, do the maths and see what you get. Each layer is 10 times greater than the previous layer as Srimad Bhagavatam tells us.

1 - 4 billion miles × by 10 = 40 billion miles (Earth)

2 - 40 billion miles × by 10 = 400 billion miles (water)

3 - 400 billion miles × by 10 = 4 Trillion miles (fire)

4 - 4 Trillion miles × by 10 = 40 Trillion miles (air)

5 - 40 Trillion miles × by 10 = 400 Trillion miles (sky or ether)

6 - 400 Trillion miles × by 10 = 4 Quadrillion miles (Total material energy or mahat tattva)

7 - 4 Quadrillion miles × by 10 = 40 Quadrillion (ego)

Now add this up and see the maths for yourself.

8 layers including the inner 4 billion miles in diameter or 12.6 billion miles in circumference that has 14 Planetary Systems in it that is deep within the Brahmanda egg shaped outer Universe.

The full size of our Brahmanda Egg shaped Universe that has the 4 billion miles diameter Bhu-Mandala smaller Universe very deep inside at its center, originates from the Body of Maha Vishnu.

Therefore our Brahmanda is 44 Quadrillion 444 Trillion 444 billion miles in diameter. This is what our small Bhu-Mandala Universe with its 14 different planetary systems that includes a small earth global sphere is deep within.

Explaining the material Universe we live in.

Our individual material universe, with its 14 planetary systems, is found deep inside a larger spherical massive Universe called a "Brahmanda" that surrounds and encases our small inner universe found deep within it.

There are billions of Brahmanda's in the material creation.

Our small Universe within one of the Brahmandas, is known as Bhu-Mandala which is just a mere 4 billion miles in diameter.

Our "Brahmanda housing dome or shell" is a massive egg shaped, yet almost spherical covering, that houses and encases our small material universe deep within it known as Bhu-Mandala.

The makeup of the entire material universe is difficult to comprehend, our Brahmanda, like all others coming from Maha Vishnu, is massive in size whereas our entire inner Bhu-Mandala universe is but an insignificant spec in relation to size.

Also our individual universe, with its 14 planetary systems, found deep inside the massive Brahmanda, is further found within the lotus steam coming from Garbhodakashayi Vishnu who resides in the center of our Brahmanda.

The vast number of "Brahmanda Universes" each surrounds and encases a smaller universe where Garbhodakashayi Vishnu and Lord Brahma resides.

Our small Universe in our Brahmanda is known as Bhu-Mandala which is just a mere 4 billion miles in diameter.

The 14 Planetary Systems are in the stem coming from the Body of Garbhodakashayi Vishnu.

This is explained in Srimad Bhagavatam canto 1 Chapter 3 Text 2-

"Within the stem of the lotus there are fourteen divisions of planetary systems, and the earthly planets are situated in the middle".

Srila Prabhupada - "All these planetary systems are scattered over the complete universe, which occupies an area of "two billion times two billion square miles". SB 2.5.40-41, Purport.

Question - "I have heard that all of the planets are in the stem of the lotus from which Brahma took birth. How are we to understand this?

Answer by the late Sadaputa dasa PhD -

"This is stated in SB 1.3.2p. Since the planetary systems are distributed throughout the universal globe, it must be that the stem encompasses everything within this globe. We should note that the standard pictures we see of Brahma sitting on the lotus flower are three-dimensional representations of a scene that cannot be seen using our ordinary senses.

Although the pictures show the lotus stem emerging from the navel of Garbhodakashayi Vishnu, Brahma himself was unable to locate the origin of the stem.

Thus, part of the scene was beyond the senses of Brahma, and so it is certainly beyond the reach of our senses. We also note that the planetary systems were created by Brahma from the lotus (SB 3.10.7-8).

This suggests that these systems were produced by transforming the substance of the lotus". End of Quote.

Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 1 Chapter 3 Text 2 Purport explains -

Srila Prabhupada  - "From Karanodakasayi Visnu (Maha Vishnu) skin holes innumerable universes have sprung up. In each and every universe, the purusa enters as the Garbhodakasayi Visnu.

He is lying within the half of the universe which is full with the water of His body. And from the navel of Garbhodakasayi Visnu has sprung the stem of the lotus flower, the birthplace of Brahma, who is the father of all living beings and the master of all the demigod engineers engaged in the perfect design and working of the universal order.

Within the stem of the lotus there are fourteen divisions of planetary systems, and the earthly planets are situated in the middle.

Upwards there are other, better planetary systems, and the topmost system is called Brahmaloka or Satyaloka.

Downwards from the earthly planetary system there are seven lower planetary systems inhabited by the asuras and similar other materialistic living beings.

From Garbhodakasayi Visnu there is expansion of the Ksirodakasayi Visnu, who is the collective Paramatma of all living beings. He is called Hari, and from Him all incarnations within the universe are expanded.

Therefore, the conclusion is that the purusa-avatara is manifested in three features —

1 - First the Karanodakasayi (Maha Vishnu) who creates aggregate material ingredients in the mahat-tattva,

2 - Second the Garbhodakasayi Vishnu who enters in each and every universe,

3 - Thirdly the Ksirodakasayi Vishnu who is the Paramatma of every material object, organic or inorganic.

One who knows these plenary features of the Personality of Godhead knows Godhead properly, and thus the knower becomes freed from the material conditions of birth, death, old age and disease, as it is confirmed in Bhagavad-gita, In this sloka the subject matter of Maha-Visnu is summarized.

The Maha-Visnu lies down in some part of the spiritual sky by His own free will. Thus He lies on the ocean of karana, from where He glances over His material nature, and the mahat-tattva is at once created.

Thus electrified by the power of the Lord, the material nature at once creates innumerable universes, just as in due course a tree decorates itself with innumerable grown fruits.

The seed of the tree is sown by the cultivator, and the tree or creeper in due course becomes manifested with so many fruits. Nothing can take place without a cause.

The Karana Ocean is therefore called the Causal Ocean. Karana means "causal." We should not foolishly accept the atheistic theory of creation. The description of the atheists is given in the Bhagavad-gita.

The atheist does not believe in the creator, but he cannot give a good theory to explain the creation. Material nature has no power to create without the power of the purusa, just as a prakrti, or woman, cannot produce a child without the connection of a purusa, or man.

The purusa impregnates, and the prakrti delivers. We should not expect milk from the fleshy bags on the neck of a goat, although they look like breastly nipples.

Similarly, we should not expect any creative power from the material ingredients; we must believe in the power of the purusa, who impregnates prakrti, or nature.

Because the Lord wished to lie down in meditation, the material energy created innumerable universes at once, in each of them the Lord lay down, and thus all the planets and the different paraphernalia were created at once by the will of the Lord.

The Lord has unlimited potencies, and thus He can act as He likes by perfect planning, although personally He has nothing to do. No one is greater than or equal to Him. That is the verdict of the Vedas". SB 1.3.2p End of Quote.

Our small inner Universe's 14 Planetary Systems are situated inside the lotus stem surrounded and encased by the larger universal Brahmanda.

This massive Brahmanda outer shell or covering is made up of  7 material layers that is collectively 44 quadrillion, 444 trillion, 444 billion miles in diameter.

The 7 layers are - (From S B Canto 6 Chapter 16 Text 37)

1 - EARTH,
2 - WATER,
3 - FIRE,
4 - AIR,
5 - SKY,
6 - TOTAL MATERIAL ENERGY OR MAHAT TATTVA,
7 - FALSE EGO.

Srimad Bhagavatam says there are millions of individual Brahmanda universes coming from Maha Vishnu making up the entire material creation (1/4 of the Spiritual Sky) that also house their own inner universe.

All smaller universes inside their Brahmanda are of different sizes, some, like ours, are only 4 billion miles in diameter.

The "4 billion miles (500,000,000 Yojanas)" diameter of our universe with its 14 planetary systems is one of the smallest. Ours is called Bhu-Mandala.

In Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 3 Chapter 26 text 52 in Purport Srila Prabhupada states -

"The space within the hollow of the universe cannot be measured by any human scientist or anyone else."

This also suggests that something unexpected must happen to space (as well as time) as one approaches the outer universal Brahmanda shell, for it hardly seems impossible to measure a distance of 2 billion miles in ordinary space.

For this reason, the Vedas say that God is beyond the grasp of our knowledge. '' Krsna Book 87

We CANNOT see from one universe to another, this is because our individual universe is surrounded and encased by 7 thick material layers that is our outer egg shaped universe called a Brahmanda.

Krsna Book 87.

Krsna Book, 89

Srila Prabhupada - ''Each universe is covered by various layers of material elements (The 7 layers of the outer Brahmanda covering), and therefore although the universes are clustered together, we CANNOT see from one universe to another. In other words, whatever we see is within this one universe. In each universe there is one Lord Brahmā, and there are other demigods on other planets, but there is only one sun''.- (Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 5 Chapter 21 Text 11, Purport)

Every universe is covered by seven layers—earth, water, fire, air, sky, the total energy and false ego—each ten times greater than the previous one. There are innumerable universes besides this one, and although they are unlimitedly large, they move about like atoms in You. Therefore You are called unlimited [ananta].

PURPORT

This verse describes the coverings of the universe (saptabhir daśa-guṇottarair aṇḍa-kośaḥ).

1 - The first covering is EARTH,
2 - the second is WATER,
3 - the third is FIRE,
4 - the fourth is AIR,
5 - the fifth is SKY,
6 - the sixth is the TOTAL MATERIAL ENERGY OR MAHAT TATTVA,
7 - the seventh is the FALSE EGO.

Beginning with the covering of earth, each covering is ten times greater than the previous one. Thus we can only imagine how great each universe is, and there are many millions of universes". (Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 6 Chapter 16 Text 37)

As confirmed by the Lord Himself in Bhagavad-gītā (BG 10.42): -

athavā bahunaitena
kiṁ jñātena tavārjuna
viṣṭabhyāham idaṁ kṛtsnam
ekāṁśena sthito jagat.

"But what need is there, Arjuna, for all this detailed knowledge? With a single fragment of Myself I pervade and support this entire universe."

The entire material world manifests is only one fourth of the Supreme Lord's energy. Therefore He is called ananta''.

In the purport in Srimad-Bhagavatam Canto 2 Chapter 2 Text 28-

"Śrīla Śrīdhara Svāmī confirms that a part of the material nature, after being initiated by the Lord, is known as the mahat-tattva.

Then the outer covering known as the Brahmanda shell begins.

Beyond this there is nothing to be desired or achieved by the perfect yogī."

It is also says in Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 3 Chapter 26 Text 52 -

Srila Prabhupada  - "The dimensions of the universe are estimated here. The outer covering is made of layers of water, air, fire, sky, ego and mahat-tattva, and each layer is ten times greater than the one previous.

The space within the hollow of the universe cannot be measured by any human scientist or anyone else, and beyond the hollow there are seven coverings, each one ten times greater than the one preceding it.

The layer of water is ten times greater than the diameter of the universe, and the layer of fire is ten times greater than that of water.

Similarly, the layer of air is ten times greater than that of fire. These dimensions are all inconceivable to the tiny brain of a human being."

In Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 3 Chapter 29 Text 43 Prabhupada says-

Srila Prabhupada  - "It is understood from this verse that all the planets in outer space are floating, and they all hold living entities.

The word svasatam means "those who breathe," or the living entities. In order to accommodate them, there are innumerable planets. Every planet is a residence for innumerable living entities, and the necessary space is provided in the sky by the supreme order of the Lord.

It is also stated here that the total universal body is increasing. It is covered by seven layers, and as there are five elements within the universe, so the total elements, in layers, cover the outside of the universal body.

The first layer is of earth, and it is ten times greater in size than the space within the universe;

The second layer is water, and that is ten times greater than the earthly layer;

The third covering is fire, which is ten times greater than the water covering. In this way each layer is ten times greater than the previous one.

In the above mentioned purports to Srimad  Bhagavatam seemingly gives contradictory information that can make things confusing to scholars. (SB 2.2.28 and SB 3.26.52 says it is water and SB 3.29.43 says it is earth)? Furthermore, what is the breadth of the first layer?

The purport to Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 2 Chapter 2 Text 28 says it is 80,000 000 miles while the diameter of the universe is 4 000,000,000 miles. This does not add up.

On the other hand Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 3 Chapter 29 Text 43 says the first layer based on the diameter of our Bhu-Mandala Universe which is 4 billions miles diameter, is 10 times greater in size than our 4 billion mile diameter inner Bhu-Mandala Universe, this adds up to 4 billion miles in diameter for our fist covering or layer of our small Universe.

So 80 million miles diameter for our first layer said in Canto 2 Chapter 2 Text 28 is definitely not 4 billion miles multiplied by 10 that equals 40 billion miles in diameter.
