Outer space is NOT an ocean of air as some Vedic texts have claimed, and the Moon is NOT further away from our Earth planet than the Sun is!!

Outer space is NOT an ocean of air as some primitive scriptures claim.

Lets understand this topic properly with investigative intelligence and not by blindly following what scriptures says due to sentimentality and fear.

Not everything in scripture, including Vedic texts, is understood properly, for example, outer space is NOT an ocean of the air we breath.

And the Planets in outer space are NOT held in space by the manipulation of "air" as stated in Vedic texts.

Also the Moon is NOT further away from our Earth planet than the Sun is.

Both the above proposals need further serious investigation and even correction if need be, no matter who makes these claims.

No intelligent person will except such proposals found in Vedic texts "literally".

Even on the top of Mt Everest or in a 747 Plane, there must be added facilities to breath because the air gets thinner as you go higher.

As a naive 20 year old, I went along with these not fully explained beliefs that frankly I always doubted due to my experiences at the Radio Telescope in Parks NSW Australia in 1969.

But now at 70 years old, if the author was still around, I would tell him he needs to explain his understanding of Cosmology more clearly because some of his views on Cosmology "do need serious corrections" if such scriptures are really going to be the foundation of religious teachings for the next 10,000 years as claimed by many devotees.

How and when did we learn that there was no oxygen in space?

The first hint that there is no air in outer space came from experiments with barometers (air-pressure measuring devices). 

In 1644, Evangelista Torricelli, who had invented a barometer, concluded that the air makes pressure because it is massive and pulled down by gravity. 

In 1648, Blaise Pascal convinced his brother-in-law Florin Perier to take a mercury barometer up the mountain Puy de Dome. 

Florin Perierf found that the air pressure declined with increasing altitude.

The next step forward involved how the air behaves with temperature and pressure, and also how gravity behaves away from the Earth.

It’s hard for me to find out who first deduced that the Earth’s atmosphere is a thin layer around the Earth, but that ought to have been evident by the early 18th cy. at the least, and certainly by the late 19th Century.

The first successful crewed balloons were launched in 1783, and by the mid 19th Century, balloonists were reaching an altitude of about 10 km. 

By the mid-1950’s, both balloons and airplanes had gone above 20 km altitude.

The first rocket to make it into outer space was the V-2 rocket, typically going some 100 km up, and in 1944, once up to 175 km. 

The Bumper rocket was a V-2 with a WAC Corporal rocket on top of it. 

In 1949, the latter rocket once reached a height of 400 km.

The truth explained in the comments above, is there is no air or oxygen in outerspace, and the Planets are not held in place by air! 

On this point, the Vedic texts are either wrong, or the word "air" means something else. 

Some try to get around this by saying "solar winds" however that is not air, it is light particles.

Saying the Vedas are explained in the language of the demigods means anyone can justify any nonsense claiming this point. 

This is how the uneducated on basic Cosmology make the claim the Moon is further away from earth than the Sun, said in a "Purport in the 8th Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam".

That Purport, if taken "literally", is incorrect and wrong, including the comment that space crafts cannot reach the Moon in three days!

The fact is, it DOES take three days to reach the Moon proved by Japan, China, Russia, European Union, the United States, India and Israel.

It is absurd and silly nonsense to believe they are all in on some nonsense hoax or conspiracy.

By reading Sadaputa dasa, ISKCON's Cosmology Books, he explains the Moon is above the earth but NOT further away from Earth than the Sun.

This is also explained in Surya Siddhanta that gives the figure of 258,000 miles to the Moon from our Earth, this is very close to modern day calculations of 238,000 miles from Earth!!**.
